Re: Music Chit-Chat Thread Track 01: The Rumours of My Virtue They Moved Her Not At All
The one album of his that I've seen anywhere near 15 bucks was his 2 disc b-sides album "Around the Well." If your looking to get into Iron & Wine I would suggest buying "The Shepard's Dog" and then exploring the rest of his catalog. That's probably his easiest album to get into. Not that Iron & Wine is really that hard to get into.

Dark Wyrm has it right. His latest Album, The Shephard's Dog is his most mainstream album, it has a more appealing type of sound.
Around the Well is AMAZING too, though.

Has anyone listened to all of Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield? Isn't it just the most awesomest song you've ever heard? If you haven't and you're a fan of music I highly recommend it. But, it's rather long at around 26 mins (which makes it all the more awesome).
Listening to Shine on you Crazy Diamond by Pink Floyd right now. Having briefly read through the earlier posts I'd have to say this really is a 'Pink Floyd Song'. |

I wouldn't ever really consider starting in on a band by looking at their B-sides, and even then the prices in Canada are much higher than the ones in the US, so a CD that is under $15 there probably wouldn't be here. I already know I'd like Iron & Wine, I've listened to him plenty of times, I just don't have any of his records. Quote:

I, somewhat recently (couple'a months ago?), discovered Matthew Santos. He's moderately unknown and I introduced him to Andy yesterday and he most certainly liked what he heard. I luff Matthew Santos.
Here's one song Here's another. Tell me what'cha think. He currently has 1 EP and 1 Album out, iirc.

I have all of their albums on itunes except for the new one that came out in may. Sheperd's Dog is probably the album with the most variety since most of their other stuff tends to be slow and chill. Their cover of such great heights is the only good one by the way. I heard ben folds cover and I about vomited. (I'm a fan of his too, btw.) Amanda Palmer I thought would be a decent cover. I was desperately wrong. There were like six other covers of that song I was going to listen to, but my ears just couldn't take it anymore.

Currently listening to October Fall, a band that is so so terrible and so so contrived but write songs that are so so deliciously catchy with plenty of great hooks.
If I have a guilty pleasure band, this is probably it. Oh god it's so awful, I love it. |

I adore The Beatles, but neither of those albums are anywhere near my favourites. The White Album is a prime example of a having double-album syndrome, and while Sgt. Pepper's is innovative in a lot of ways, I don't love that many of the songs on it.

Your musical compatibility with hyperboreann is LOW well, at least we share of love of David Bowie. But this is a little biased, as I haven't scrobbled anything in like 3 or 4 months and my music tastes have changed. Has anyone heard of a band called Vermillion Lies? |

Yup. Same here. Friend was talking about them the other day, but I'm pretty broke right now and I was wondering if the CD was good enough to pick up.

They have two albums, I think. I have Separated at Birth on mp3 and it' alright, but I wouldn't buy it. If you really do dig cabaret check out The World/Inferno Friendship Society and The Peculiar Pretzelmen, who are awesome and better than Vermillion Lies.
