You got that backwards dude. Most of the metal we have now evolved from punk. Look at the Big four of Thrash. Megadeth, Metallica, Anthrax and Slayer all got thier Ideas from The Misfits, Dead Kennedys, Sex Pistols, Black Flag, DI, ect ect.

Anywho, I noticed a few droogies in this thread. that rules. but no love for Amon Amarth? No Goat Whore or Skeleton Witch (I saw them all Live with amon amarth, it was sweet.)

Oh, and I do enjoy Faith No More. I've never really considered them to be metal, but the metal archives do, so whatever.

You'd be suprised by how many metal bands have thier roots in Punk.

Hatebreed is probably one of the best examples of this.

No, Hatebreed is probably one of the worst examples, seeing as they are hardcore and not metal. And yes, hardcore does indeed have its roots in punk.

Also yes thrash has bases in Punk but metal has more roots in blues.

Thrash is basically venom but faster and more riffs.

Early hardcore punk was very important for thrash. As thrash gots it attitude and agression from early hardcore. Thrash was actually what some hardcore punk used to be called in the very early 80's.

Black metal has punk influence too. Grindcore is at its purest just a extreme form of punk.

Modern hardcore is basically groove metal influenced hardcore punk + breakdowns. Also see Biohazard for importance for modern hardcore.

3 INCHES OF BLOOD is my pick. They play kck ass metal with dual falsetto
and screaming vocals. Plus they sing about pirates, post appocalyptic war, and many other mythical themed songs. The new album "Here Waits Thy Doom" comes out just before my birth.

I gotta say that my all time fav metal band is disturbed, even though they do alot of other stuff too. Recently tho, I have been listening to a newer band that was only formed in '05 called Five Finger Death Punch, and I gotta say, they have some really good stuff.
