How do you feel about Green Day?
With about 8 albums and 3 EPs, Green Day has become one of the world's most known Punk Rock bands. But I'd like to know about you guys.
How do you view Green Day? Personally, I really like Billie Joe Armstrong's singing voice and Tré Cool's drumming style. Mike Dirnt is also very good at base and I sure as heck wouldn't mind learning bass from him.

Re: How do you feel about Green Day?
Green Day is one of my guilty pleasures.
I don't think they're all that special playing-wise, but Billie Joe's vocals are pretty neat. I've not yet heard their new album yet, something I'm going to change soon.

Re: How do you feel about Green Day?
I wasn't keen on their earlier stuff, but I thought American Idiot was pretty good. I kind of got burnt out on it, though; the new album feels like more of the same and it hasn't really grabbed me. I'm really impressed with how they've grown as a band, though; they're trying to do something a bit different from the norm and it seems to be working pretty well for them.

Re: How do you feel about Green Day?
Green Day is up there as one of my top three favorite bands. Quite an amazing band once you actually listen to them. Thankfully, folks like Andy and Alex convinced me to take a look at them (love ya babes).
I don't think I can name a favorite song yet, but Alex's list would pretty much be what I'd put there. They're a really solid band, and they've been going up in quality.

It's called evolving as a group of musicians.

That's the thing, though, you don't go down the concept-album, long-song route if you want to sell records. It's exactly what you're not supposed to do. It really impresses me that they've pulled it off.

Re: How do you feel about Green Day?
I respect the band because they really contributed to and helped kick-start the pop-punk genre I love so much, but I've never been much of a fan. Like, I dig Dookie and whatnot well enough, but its not a record I've listened to in ages, and really have no desire to like I often do with records and bands I had stopped listening to. Just not that big a fan of their sound, I guess.
I'm also really not a fan of their material as of late. I was somewhat curious to hear their new album, but am not willing to drop any coin on it. Especially after I bought American Idiot and didn't really enjoy it at all. |

I still enjoy the older albums but when they sold out and made American Idiot, I couldn't stand them. Their style changed too much for my tastes. However, don't take what I'm saying the wrong way. I still enjoy listening to their Dookie album every now and then. =]

As for American Idiot, not really. Apparently, they had an album they weren't totally happy with almost completely finished, but the master tapes were stolen from the studio, so they restarted from the beginning and did a concept album. Which is where American Idiot comes in. |

Re: How do you feel about Green Day?
I don't like Green Day that much. They're songs are just way outside of my musical tastes. Time of Your Life was alright, but I veiw pretty much every other song of theirs as garbage.

Have you just heard their singles? What kind of music do you like? It's possible I could think of one of their songs you'd enjoy.

Re: How do you feel about Green Day?
I don't get the sell-out comments about Green Day.
Selling-out, in the context of changing sound or compromising integrity, generally means a band imitates and sound popular or several popular acts (at the time of recording at least, because what is popular in the mainstream or even within different music scenes, is pretty fluid) in order to appeal to the mainstream, to a wider audience. American Idiot wasn't really imitating or impersonating anything out at the time. Sure, it was influenced a lot by different acts, but it wasn't anything that seemed to come out of left-field or seemed altogether too close to some other band or bands. To me it just comes off as progression, not some drastic change in a bid to sell records...because they already were selling records. Every record they put out since Dookie in 1994 cracked the top ten at its peak. |

Re: How do you feel about Green Day?
It's nothing against Green Day themslelves, they're just part of a genre that I don't really like. My musical tastes are based in the old Big Band and Swing music. Punk-pop music just leaves a bad taste in my mouth whenever I listen to it.
