Hehe, yeah. Just a pet peeve of mine. I get the reason for it.

American Idiot wasn't bad. Jesus of Suburbia got old after a while.

I'm talking about Hollywood Breakdown was a complete mistake.

The only song I really like by greenday is Welcome to Paradise.

Yes, that's exactly the reason most people use it. I find it easier to describe Green Day to ignorant people as a Punk band than to go into detail about their sound, which is where genres come into use.

But, I guess it is understandable how all of the different genres do get to be annoying.

Re: How do you feel about Green Day?

I love Green Day. They play fast, fun, entertaining music. It's simple, yes, but that's not always a bad thing. I like being able to play along with my favourite songs on guitar or bass without too much effort.

I don't see them as Punk - more Pop-Punk, but I'm not quite sure. I don't think we should get too caught up with the genre though - if it sounds good to you, listen to it and enjoy it.

On another note, I'm going to see them live in Belfast in October! =) I really liked 21st Century Breakdown (although one song annoys me: Know Your Enemy. I don't think it should've been one of the singles) although their earlier albums will always be best to me.

Re: How do you feel about Green Day?

I never cared much for Green Day. Not so much the old stuff not so much the new stuff.

I did always like "Pulling Teeth" though. It's perhaps the most unique song from Dookie as well as my personal favorite song by them, which is funny, because most people I run into say this song sucks.

Green Day has become one of the world's most known Punk Rock bands.
Punk Rock died long ago; Green Day is pseudo-punk.

Meh, I probably don't know enough about Green Day to make a truly qualified judgement about them, but from what I've heard from them (Apparently, their more recent stuff), I really don't see the appeal in them, at all. I mean, it's beyond my knowledge how repetitive drivel like this can be popular, but whatever; to each his own.

They're certainly not Dream Theater or anything good like that.

I really don't care for them. I find their music to be quite boring. However, I adore Brain Stew.

Re: How do you feel about Green Day?

Hmm. While not terrible, I don't hear anything special about them. Their work seems sort-of cookie-cutter, and I still wonder how bands like them are able to remain far more popular than bands like the one I mentioned.

Because some people don't want to listen to complex music all the time? I could never understand someone who only listens to one genre of music.

There's a difference between music being "simple/not complex" and "repetitive." I don't listen to merely one genre of music; I just don't like it when music is very bland and repetitive (And I'm especially bothered when bland/repetitive music overshadows music that isn't).

I used to listen to Green Day back then. It's not that they're bad now, I just have my own taste developed into folk and power metal.

I DO recall listening to them from time-to-time...

How many bands and artists do you listen to that have riffs and such that aren't the same thing repeating, with the only major differences being solos and the lyrics? Sure, Dream Theater plays music that is more complex than other bands, but you can single out a main riff in just about all of their songs.

I'm not simply talking about bands using a "recurring riff" throughout a song; more, I'm talking about that recurring riff being the song (As in the song I linked in my post), or that recurring riff being bland.

Know Your Enemy is hardly a shining example of their work.

I don't think Jesus of Suburbia or Give Me Novacaine are like what you're saying at all. Brain Stew, sure, but that's one hell of a riff.

Re: How do you feel about Green Day?

I like Green Day. I don't LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE them. But I like them.
They are one of those bands that I have always known and listened to here and there, but I never REALLY got into them.

I would actually like to listen to some more of their stuff. I mostly just know their songs that play on the radio. I have only ever owned one of their albums.

Re: How do you feel about Green Day?

I'm not a 12 year old junior high girl. Don't really have much feelings for them at all. Back in the day I liked "dookie" and previous tracks... but that was about it.

They didn't "evolve as a group of musicians" they figured out what sold the best and what made them most popular and started emulating that. Sorta like Avril Lavigne when she came down to the United states from Canada and made her transition from country to pop. It just sells better.

Oh, and Greenday isn't "Punk Rock". It's BARELY Pop-Punk... with a pinch of emo... <.<

Re: How do you feel about Green Day?

I always kind of thought Green Day had died in a tour accident back in the 90s, and their record label simply produced clones who were bad at making music

Not to say they were ever good at making music, just that the clones were worse

I would like to chip in on the whole 'repetative' conversation, if I may.

Whilst I agree 'Know Your Enemy' is repetative, it actually pulls it off very well. As do many of the repetative Green Day tracks.
Example: I was walking home one day and was listening to the song Misery. Very repetative but in my opinion one of the best tracks on the album 'Warning'.

Also, I'd just like to talk about the lyrics. They are great. Powerful, some might say, but I don't know about that. A lot of the time, they make no sense to me, but they sound great and can be quoted anywhere (Just look at some of the CR's and sigs in this thread).
Furhter more, if they suck at making music, why do people keep lapping it up?
