I played a cover of "Warning" with one of my high school bands, and hated playing it every time .

My friend's band did a sweet cover of "When I Come Around," though!

Re: How do you feel about Green Day?

Green Day was the first band I really go in to, so they will always hold a place in my heart. I saw 'em live a few weeks back, ****ing amazing! 3 hour show!!! I really love their old stuff the most, but the past 2 albums are awesome. The only album I dislike is Warning. My favorite has to be Nimrod or Insomniac. I consider their old stuff and newest album to be more Punk than Warning and some of the stuff on American Idiot (e.g Wake Me Up When September Ends, Give Me Novacaine, Boulevard Of Broken Dreams, Are We the Waiting), which have more of a Pop-Punk feel. In the words of Kurt Cobain "Punk rock is freedom".

Punk Rock =/= Classic Rock.

Anyway, that's an ignorant way to phrase it. Musical tastes evolve, you don't just stop liking a band because you've found something new.

Well i mean Green Day is good. Back then, i didnt really like music because I hadent found anything, like, super good. But I did like Green Day, All American Rejects, and some other rock bands. I dont have anything against them, I just dont like them as much anymore. Its Rap that I hate... and im just not even gonna get into that.

Re: How do you feel about Green Day?

There ya go, much better way to put it.

And, I thought that too once. I was like "I liked this band before?", and my American Idiot CD was forever lost in my collection.

But, reading this thread made me nostalgic, so I put it in, and damn I was surprised. I liked it a lot more than I did the first times I listened to it. Especially with songs I hadn't liked before. It may be the same with you, just give em a listen after a while, you might find yourself enjoying it more than usual.

I'm trying to figure out why Green Day are still labeled as Punk. It's just rock and roll. =\

Insomniac is one of my favorite albums ever. Yup. The new album isn't too bad, either.

The whole thing could pass as one really long song.

When I was growing up, our family only owned one CD player. As such, it would always have to be shared. Now, My parents never really used it, so my two brothers where fighting over it ALL the time. As I was just 7 at the time, I could not join this struggle for the CD player alone, therefore I took sides.
Now James (brother) was quite puny, so I gatherd he needed a hand on getting hold of the thing, as Andy (brother) was pretty nasty at that age and would not hesitate to punch, kick and headbutt to get the CD player.
So, this one day, 'gangsta rap' was blaring from the thing, and me and James shanghied it under Andy's nose. As he would never hit a younger sibling who could easily go crying to her mother, I jumped on him and stopped him from chasing James.
We locked ourself in the bathroom and put in a Green Day CD (Dookie, I believe) and I have been hooked ever since.

I like how they have changed throughout the years, too. However, they always have that one song that reminds you of 'Basket Case'

I can't stand listening to any of Green Day's music. It's really, really not my type of music.

They've put out two rock/alt rock records, but six pop-punk records. Also, I know that American Idiot still has some pop-punk sensibilities scattered throughout. The title track especially.

It went opposite for me. Kinda. I got started in classic rock, and slowly worked my way to present day, and I still like everything that I've come across.

Speaking of that, for the most part I've enjoyed bands before and after they supposedly "sold out", so I don't care what goes on with record companies so long as the bands are making music that I like, whether its original or not.

It's pretty easy to see why, especially with their older stuff, from Nimrod back to the first CD. They have fast, "sloppy", short, power chord songs that have a raw distortion, basically the definition of Punk. Just compare Green Day and The Offspring to the punk bands of the '70s (The Ramones, The Clash, Sex Pistols, etc.). There's a pretty similar sound. Although, there are many different genres of Punk, for example, Hardcore Punk (Fugazi, Black Flag, Bad Brains, etc.) and Grunge (Nirvana, The Melvins, Mudhoney, etc.), which sound very different.

Oh, and Rock n' Roll is just a broad term and Punk is one of its genres. So yes, Green Day are Rock n' Roll, but they are also Punk and Pop-Punk and Alternative Rock.

Now, Green Days past 3 CDs have more of a Pop feel and less of the Punk feel than their earlier stuff, however there are still some songs that have Punk roots, and I really feel that a good number of songs on 21st Century Breakdown are Punk.

Re: How do you feel about Green Day?

Their new album is complete garbage.

I do enjoy some of their songs, and I agree Billie Joe's voice is incredible, and Tre' is very humerous.
They're up there, but they're not incredible.

Labeling music to that extent has always bothered me. I mean, I'm fine with it to a certain point, but it gets to be ****ing stupid.

*shrug* I find it helps me articulate my thoughts on most bands better if I can describe in detail their sound and influences and such by using genre terms, rather than trying to break down their sound more specifically in a way that would take ages and probably be harder to understand.

Re: How do you feel about Green Day?

I like this band. I like their new album. But I still prefer the older stuff.

Billie Joe's vocals are great.
Mike's bass is good.
And Tre is just...Tre. Which is good.
