Of course, I haven't given the genre much listen. All the options on that list I haven't listened to much of their stuff, but I know Metallica has good stuff.

Well actually the guitarist is not just "Wailing on guitar strings", in thrash alot of sweep picking and legato phrasing is used when it comes to lead guitar, and in the rhythm guitar alot of palm muting is used.
The drummer is not just "banging whatever sits in front of him" just listen to this

The vocals are supposed to be harsh in thrash, it is the whole point. Thrash is an agressive genre. Thrash is fast becuase of the double bass drum used on the drums.
You should really look into the Thrash more. Personally one of my favourite genres
