Big four of thrash?

Megadeth,Slayer,Metallica and Anthrax.

Four gods of thrash, The four of them rock but the question here is which rocks harder?

In my opinion...Megadeth, to me Dave mustaine breaks James in half when it comes to guitar and vocals. Not to mention that he co-wrote so many songs for the album Kill em all while he was in Metallica, this is sad becuase Metallica kept the songs he helped write. They even dubbed one of the songs he wrote (Mechanix) to the four horsemen.

Yea sure, the current Megadeth band is almost new but to me it is still the best out of the four.

Anthrax is a good band but I do not like the fact that they mix rap in some of their songs...I just dont like it.

Slayer, Just not my style, they are musically(spelling?) great but the lyrics of their songs are creepy. But you gota love Lombardo...that man is a god when it comes to the double bass drum.

I would like for you to post your opinion!!

I call bull. No thrash metal band is better than Metallica, IMO. Still, if you're going to listen to thrash metal, you should at least check out the Big Four first.

that's very stereotypical of you to say. Most people have the same mentality. If you listen to other bands, you would see that there's better stuff out there. Metallica is a great thrash metal band, but not my favorite.

I believe that what he means is that someone new to Thrash should check out the big four first, as you really can't deny their influence on the genre.

Re: Big four of thrash?

Metallica gets this hands down.
I'm a fan of the softer side of rock, and even I love these guys. And they made a total comeback to what they used to do in the early pre-black album days with Death Magnetic.

Honestly, I though Death Magnetic sucked. It was a hell of a lot better than St. Anger, but it still sucked. Metallica hasn't been exceptional since the Black Album, IMO.

Re: Big four of thrash?

When I think of thrash metal I think of a guy wailing on the guitar strings the whole song, fast so it can cover up that what he's actually playing has no good quality at all. The drummer also bangs on whatever sits in front of him with no real rhyme or rhythm (literally ). Of course this increases 10x during the solos. The singer is also attempting to sound very very harsh. Don't forget the massive distortion either!

Of course, I haven't given the genre much listen. All the options on that list I haven't listened to much of their stuff, but I know Metallica has good stuff.

Well actually the guitarist is not just "Wailing on guitar strings", in thrash alot of sweep picking and legato phrasing is used when it comes to lead guitar, and in the rhythm guitar alot of palm muting is used.

The drummer is not just "banging whatever sits in front of him" just listen to this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_wPxI...eature=related You cant tell me he is hitting the drums with no rhythm.

The vocals are supposed to be harsh in thrash, it is the whole point. Thrash is an agressive genre. Thrash is fast becuase of the double bass drum used on the drums.

You should really look into the Thrash more. Personally one of my favourite genres

As I said, what I posted was my mental image for Thrash, not what it actually is.

What I meant for quitar was that there is more emphasis on the speed than in quality. Same for drums.

I like that video a lot.

Eh, I can't really describe the quality of what I mean by "harsh" in words. :<

I might if I'm feeling bored sometime.

Hehe, but a major point in thrash IS speed!!!

Well I can not tell you anything, it is your own point of view on the genre.

Re: Big four of thrash?

*super facepalm* The fact Testament is not in that poll makes me very sad.

Remove Slayer and put Testament there and that would be more accurate.

But yeah Testament is the way to go and in my opinion the best of the thrash. ESPECIALLY The Bay Area thrash! Anthrax (not Bay Area) are also pretty high up there. Megadeth in third and Metallica way at the bottom.

Maybe you should read the title historically Testament is not one of the big four of thrash.

But good band.
