So far I've only seen reports that he's in the hospital. Did they announce it that he's dead for sure? Or that he had cardiac arrest?

One of the world's biggest pop stars, Michael Jackson, has died after a heart attack, reports the entertainment site TMZ.

Michael Jackson, 50, suffered a heart attack at lunchtime on Thursday.

Just before 3 p.m. Pacific, the Los Angeles Times reported that Mr. Jackson “is in a coma.” The newspaper attributed the news to one law enforcement source.

And here I was thinking MJ would live another few decades. I guess heart faliure (I assume it's what happened) can strike any time with no warning.

Most of the reports on his death are just coming out now. A lot of places are still only reporting it as him being rushed to the hospital.
