Re: Do people still buy CDs?
I used to be really into just downloading off of iTunes, but I went to a week-long jazz workshop where Juilliard professors taught us how to play jazz for a week, including jamming and concerts and listening sessions. They encouraged us to start building a collection of physical records instead of just digital downloading.
I owned a few real CD's, like Weezer's Pinkerton and Miles Davis' Kind of Blue, but when I came back from the workshop I started buying CD's like crazy. I spent well over $100 on CD's in the next few days and about that much on digital downloads when I couldn't find the CD's I wanted. I bought tons of jazz albums (and a few rock albums from my favorite bands like Switches and Low vs Diamond), but I quickly cleaned my local f.y.e. out of all of their good jazz albums so I turned to my friends iTunes and Amazon for digital downloads to continue building my collection. Basically, even though they're essentially obsolete, if I can get it in CD format, I will because I love the shape and feel of a CD and a CD case and I like having the booklet and the liner notes, something you rarely ever get from digital downloading. I have no problem with digital downloading though and I love to just grab a new album from the iTunes store when I'm feeling in a Miles Davis mood or a Charles Mingus mood or a Coltrane mood or whatever. So, either way, as long as I get my music. Really, a CD is not that much more expensive than a digital download. Especially jazz CD's. Nobody likes jazz so the CD prices are usually lower (around the $9.99 of a digital download - sometimes up to $13 but not usually), so I think it's worth it.

Re: Do people still buy CDs?
I still and will continue to buy cds forever. Good ablum art is nice but thats not why you should buy the album. If you are a fan of the band/artist then you should want to have the album because you like the music. I buy cds so I can have hard physical evidence in case anything happens to my Ipod. Bands should stop putting a picture of the band on the cover.

Re: Do people still buy CDs?
I normally buy/import CDs, and rarely buy off of iTunes. I love having the actual CDs instead of just a picture and a file on my mp3 player. It's fun to collect all the different singles and studio albums and just be able to say that I have them. And the style and art are always unique.
Besides, I usually can't find most of the artists I like when I search iTunes or something similar to that. xD; |
