C'mon, no John Entwistle on bass?
Kieth Moon is beast on drums, probably my favorite drummer of all time. |

Re: The "Your Dream Band" Thread
I couldn't remember his name so I just put down Aerosmith's bassist. I'll edit now.

Re: The "Your Dream Band" Thread
I think I've already seen one of my dream bands perform: It was a jazz group made up of the most amazing jazz artists alive today, and it was awesome. March 7, 2008 - Crescent Jazz Festival. Let's see if I can remember who was there, with a little help from Google -
Drums: Robby Ameen ("funkify the clave") on set Alex Acuña ("the rhythm collector") - set and auxiliary percussion (yeah, they both played two different sets at the same time - they traded off solos and everything. It was amazing.) -These two drummers were seriously the two most amazing drummers I have ever seen or heard. Screw you guys and your little metal/rock drummers with their double bass and other crap, these guys actually knew how to drum. Robby Ameen played a twenty-minute drum solo with more amazing stuff in it than the standard rock drummer plays in his entire life. He kept the "clave" beat (five hits in two four-count measures) going in some way, shape, or form throughout his entire solo, be it on the high hat, the cowbell, the rims of his drums, etc etc. He was amazing. Alex Acuña's limbs operate entirely independently of each other, and he can play different time signatures in each one. Five against nine against three against four? NO PROBLEM. Each limb could play something completely different, and he made it look so easy. He's also a master of traditional Afro-Cuban drums as well. He's also one of the most in-demand session drummers ever, playing with everybody from Weather Report to Paul McCartney to U2 to Elvis to Carlos Santana to John Williams. You can keep Neil Peart and Jimmy Sullivan and Joey Jordison, Robby Ameen and Alex Acuña could OWN any of them.Trombone: Conrad Herwig (currently holds the title for "best living trombone player in the world") Sax: Ed Calle (His solos were insanely fast) - tenor sax Eric Marienthal - alto sax Trumpet: Adolfo Acosta (of Tower of Power fame) Claudio Roditi That was seriously one of the most amazing performances I have ever seen. Anyway, my fantasy blues-rock group would comprise: Guitar: Eric Clapton (lead) Jack White (rhythm) John Frusciante (awesome) Bass: Flea (Michael Balzary) Victor Wooten Drums: John Bonham Chad Smith Keyboards: Fats Waller (Fats Waller is my idol for sweet and simple jazz piano) Vocals: Jack White Anthony Kiedis John McCrea Hey, what do you know! Every member of the Red Hot Chili Peppers is included in the list above! That's because I sincerely believe that the members of the Chili Peppers are honestly four of the most talented individuals to ever get together and jam. I love them all.

Re: The "Your Dream Band" Thread
I've always found the red hot chili peppers to be extremely average musicians individually, aside from John Frusciante, I suppose.

Re: The "Your Dream Band" Thread
Chad Smith, their drummer (who by the way looks exactly like Will Ferrell), is evidently good enough to play in a band with Joe Satriani, tentatively titled Chickenfoot.
I've always considered him to actually be a pretty good drummer, maybe even a more interesting drummer than John is an interesting guitarist, although I am a fan of John's creative abilities, to be certain. My fantasy group would have - Thomas Erak, of The Fall of Troy, on lead guitar and at least partially as a vocalist. The guy has amazing vocal range, and aside from that, many songs by The Fall of Troy would be considered pretty damn good if they were instrumentals, which you don't get much from modern music. He does a good deal of screaming when he isn't doing some impressive falsetto work, and I do believe that screaming in music, while not necessarily an operation that requires talent, can get a lot across emotionally and musically. It's kind of like Jonathan Adam's use of whispering in his arrangement for El Dorado. His guitar parts, while not the most technically impressive (although still pretty damn impressive, to be sure, they are not like Yngwie Malmsteen), are wildly creative and heavily emotional. Edit: This song, I believe is a good demonstration of his creative abilities. The song is called I Just Got This Symphony Goin', and yes, it does scream a lot throughout the song. The intro line is a pretty unique sounding semi-complex tapping riff, and I love it. Cedric Bixler-Zavala of The Mars Volta on lead vocals. I'm not going to give this guy a large description, as he much more widely known than Thomas Erak. I will just say that he has my favorite voice of any male singer out there. Hell, of any singer out there period. On drums, none other than Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater. While I do feel that collectively Dream Theater's library of music is rather boring and lacking soul (a few songs are huge exceptions to this), there is no denying that separate Dream Theater may very well be the most talented collection of musicians out there today. On bass, Victor Wooten. Why? Because the dude's creative as hell, and he can carry a damn song. blah blah. What kind of band would this be? A jazz/prog metal band. Which I guess sounds odd, but trust me, it would be sweet. |
