and only A7x's old stuff is metal. (Sounding The Seventh Trumpet, Waking The Fallen.) Thier new stuff is NOT metal.
They do have some good songs though.
The change from Waking the Fallen and City of Evil was pretty minimal. The only thing that actually changed was the vocals.

If anything, the guitar work is City of Evil is a lot better than the stuff that was done on Waking the Fallen. Personally, I think that City of Evil and Waking the Fallen are equal albums, I just like (And dislike) them for different reasons. Not that it matters, Avenged Sevenfold has never really been metal. Too poppy.

Re: Favourite Genre?

I really don't like metal or hard rock all that much, I hate rap/hip-hop and I can just barely tolerate country.

My favorite genre is definitely the "alternative" genre. This encompasses many things, though. What's "alternative" really? There are lots of subgenres of alternative music that I enjoy.

-Alternative pop is one I identify with. I hate normal pop like Maroon 5 and David Archuleta (or any other wussy American Idol alum); I don't know how I can stand alternative pop. Artists like early-days Weezer and Ben Folds and Red Hot Chili Peppers and The Raconteurs fit in here. I write my own songs; most of them fall nicely into the alternative pop genre, although I do some Caribbean-style music and some jazz and some weird dissonant stuff too.

-Garage rock - like The White Stripes, etc. Some good ol' raw, underproduced rock.

-Indie - I'm not a terribly indie person, preferring to stick on the fringes of the mainstream, but artists like Modest Mouse and CAKE and Rodrigo y Gabriela have really nice indie sounds.

-Experimental/trance/lounge - Like The Real Tuesday Weld, who "weld" genres like electronica, pop, and antique-style swing stuff together into awesomeness. Dream Theater does some funky stuff fusing metal songs with saxophone solos and string sections; it's pretty cool.

I also love classical music. Composers like Aaron Copland and J.S. Bach are just amazing. Modern contemporary classical music is sweet too, like Jon Schmidt and Edgar Meyer, Mark O'Connor, and Yo-Yo Ma's Appalachia Waltz album.

Punk is pretty good. I was listening to London Calling the other day, great album. Some truly great guitar stuff.

HAHA ok I guess there's worse styles of music than punk, but not many
I like music from all genres, but I like very little punk. Screeching Weasel is fun.

My favorite genre would have to be classic rock. If you want me to go with a "genre" more than a period of time, I'd have to narrow it down to "Progressive (regardless of decade)", which still is quite broad...

Lots of people care about technically good music. It just depends on what you like most about music. is it the lyrics? beat? the over-all feel of the song? the music only? harmony? dissonance?

In this case there is no wrong or right answer as far as what you should base your musical tastes on.

Punk is really the complete opposite of progressive as far as technicality
which is probably why I don't like it as much as other music.

Wow, guys.

It's truly amazing how people ignore rap songs that are posted that are good and that don't pertain to this just so they can make their falsely stupid "points" and rant and rave about how bad rap is because they were too lazy to look up the good ****. They said, '**** it, it all sucks.'

Yeah, I'm sure all of that rampant screaming into the mike contains substance. I'm sure every band you guys listen to avoids synthesizing their voice and their instruments and sing about important matters. I'm sure AC/DC is some god-like band who likes to sing about Wars and what's really going on. Oh, wait. They don't. They sing about having sex all night long and parties and how great rock 'n' roll is. Real ****in' substance.

Re: Favourite Genre?

there is TONS of rap that has substance and art to it.
the problem is that the hip-hop record business is VERY different than the rock business. there's corporate influence in all record genres, but in the popular hip-hop business, they seem to be all about the big money, pecking order, producer-is-kingpin sort of feel to it.

It's ALL about the marketing and big business part of it. Hip-Hop itself is one whole entity- the clothes, the attitude, the marketing, products, promotion.

"rap" is just the musical style. (rhythmic, spoken-poetry sound) hip-hop is the whole mainstream mass-marketed culture.

That' why you dont hear much hip hop with substance. the people high up in the biz are still just sticking with the formula they know works, and selling (peddling/brainwashing) it to the youth.

Re: Favourite Genre?

I love all forms of rock, expessially power metal, indie rock, and pop punk, with a bit of classic rock thrown in. I find hiphop/rap really annoying, and I start considering suicide the minuet a country song comes on.

I used to love it. I was all swallowed up in it. Yes, King Crimson, Gentle Giant, ELP, Van der Graaf and all that jazz. Then I discovered Television which led me to really discover punk, and I got totally bored with all that ridiculously pompous and pretentious prog music, when punk can say the same with three chords.
