These days genre is pretty irrelevant to me. I used to have this thing where I thought that I had to pick a genre (rock in my case) and completely ignore everything else. Luckily I grew out of that and I can enjoy a wider range of things.
I was totally the same way. I used to only listen to rock, but in the past year I have expanded to LOTS of genres of music, blues, classical, jazz, metal, and different sub-genres of metal and rock. I still have a loathe for hip hop and rap though. It just sounds so ****ty to me! The Drums, bass, and instrumentals all sound fake, and synthesized. The reason being, CUZ THEY ARE! In almost all rap and hip hop, all of the instrumentals are samples. Not to mention, it seems that all of rap (at least mainstream) is about "shootin' da niggas" and "supermanning dat hoe" and stuff. Really, the lyrics have no substance.

Re: Favourite Genre?

Claiming that all rap centers around that one theme is a display of stunning ignorance. It's as if your entire view of the genre is based on listening to the radio for a few hours.

It's fair not to like rap because that's all you've been exposed to, but that's got a lot more to do with your own experience in the field than the genre itself. Goodness.

Anyways. I'll start off.

My favourite genre of music has probably got to be good 'ol rock. I simply hate hip-hop, rap... that sort of stuff. I really like drum and bass but it's nothing special to me. I recently got into metal, mostly because of Avenged Sevenfold and I'm listening to them a lot now. The only other music you'll catch me listening to is MAYBE a bit of dance hall. But its mostly just anything rock or related to rock somehow. Like some alternative rock, indie, some emo rock. Whatever

Have fun.

Same with me... A7X was the first "metal" band I heard. I used to think they were the greates band ever and all that.
For a short time. Untill I started listening to old school stuff and reilized how much better it is then any of this new metal garbage.
and only A7x's old stuff is metal. (Sounding The Seventh Trumpet, Waking The Fallen.) Thier new stuff is NOT metal.
They do have some good songs though.

Re: Favourite Genre?

I like that old-school rap. You know, sugarhill gang.
And I hate the stuff we have these days.

Just so we're clear about what I think of the Hip-Hop industry.

Anyways, i'm primarily listening to rock or metal. That can include to Power, Death, Hard, Classic, and maybe a small variety of Punk (Billy Talent is all I like tbh).
And...whatever SOAD is considered. Insanity Rock?

Techno, Movie themes, and some orchestral music is also good.

Re: Favourite Genre?

My tastes lie in rock, grunge, and metal primarily, and the subgenres of those. I don't listen to anything from another genre on a general basis, but I can listen to a few songs and enjoy it. Techno, electronic, rap, hip hop, classical, and country make up this list.

Of course, I don't enjoy the songs that are based around ****ing some hoes or "she thinks my tractor's sexy", but there's good stuff out there.

Re: Favourite Genre?

I generally listen to stuff on the rock/metal spectrum. Everything from Sparks to Anaal Nathrakh, s'all good. I listen to stuff from other genres, I have a small collection of jazz, hip hop and electronic music.

I've actually got a growing interest in experimental/avant garde music. I love stuff that can't be easily constrained by genres.

I listen to everything, but the genres Hardstyle, Gabber, Darkcore, Vocal trance, James Blunt, Acid techno, and what Dom said, Electro House, appeal to me the most.
