I agree with Yami's selection of Death Cab, Does It Offend You, Foals and Vampire Weekend. I would also like to add on to my original post Cut Copy's "In Ghost Colours".

Re: Top 5 Albums: 2008

There weren't many albums that impressed me in 2008, but I already have my album of the year for 2009, and it's Crogacht by SuidAkrA. I was a bit disappointed by the bands last two albums, but this one sees them back on track

Not technically even out yet, but I'll be buying a genuine copy in February, and so should you if you like melodic death metal or folk metal, or hell, even if you don't like those styles, just to listen to a band who does them properly.

No. Just, for ****'s sake no. If you want "Dragonforce" that's actually good try something like Blind Guardian or Edguy or something. Coheed and Cambria aren't even close to what Dragonforce are trying to be.

Anyway, top lists for 2008? I've got two that I actually cared about so far. I haven't listened to Edguy's new album yet. D:

1. AC/DC's Black Ice. Those Aussie mother****ers have never failed to make me want to rock out when listeningot them.
2. That Handsome Devils' City Dressed in Dynamite. If you don't know these guys, check 'em out. That's all I'm sayin'.

Edit: Wait, The Scarecrow came out in 2008? I coulda sworn that was 2007. I guess I need to amend my list to three.

Almost forgot this was released in 08. For those saying that there was hardly any good releases, or only listing 1... then you obviously don't listen to much music.

Saturdays = Youth
by M83

I'm new to this type of music, but this definitely stands out for me. It's poppy and fun to listen to. They balance the use of guitars and synth to create a sound that is soothing and calm, while intense and rhythmic at the same time.

Definitely my pick for 2008 next to Viva la Vida.
See, I can't believe you like such horrible music like Avengened Sevenfold, Bring Me the Horizon and Between the Buried and Me when you like something such as M83. This is one of the other albums that deserves to be in this thread.

Shoegaze is definitely not dead.

Also...

Late of the Pier's Fantasy Black Channel deserves mention, as does Crystal Castles' self titled.

You're a pirate and I hate you. From what's been released so far, though, it sounds like their best since Emprise to Avalon.

I'll listen to absolutely anything doode. I'm really getting into electronic/ambient music now. I have an album for that.

Rain Falls in a Different Way
by Radio Massacre International

This album sticks out from the rest of their discography. They take their brand of psychedelic electronic and add in their brit-rock roots. This combination complements itself nicely to create a spacey yet rhythmic sound in the vein of Syd Barrett. Companion album to 2007's "Rain Falls in Grey".

Bit of a mix for me.
The Subways were a godsend for me. And it's great to see the new sound of animals album. Death Cab also had a solid release, but defiantly not their best work. And I'm a big shoegaze fan, so M83 was a welcome addition to my collection. The Black Kids album was also a incredibly fun album to listen too, and TV on the Radio was great as well. All in all, I think that this was a pretty good year in music.

EDIT: Reason that I quoted is that most of these albums I listened to and thought were okay or Great, Exceptions are Hadoken and Nerd. Didn't listen to those.

Oh, well. Co&Ca were the only band I knew that remotely resembled Dragonforce. So, yeah...Sorry.

Really? I thought that was one of the weaker tracks on the album. Granted I think I've only listened to it once, and I know that all my favorite songs were growers, not showers.

Also, all of the live performances of the songs are so much better than the recordings. That's why I was getting so excited for it, and then finally when it was released it left some of the tracks like ampersand and the point of it all with a bitter taste in my mouth.

Actually, after I posted that and read something about her touring I went back and gave some of it a re-listen, and it's growing on me a bit more. I still love Another Year though. I prefer Amanda's slower sadder songs a lot of the time (It's like when I talk to my friends about Yes, Virginia and noone gets why I like Me and the Minibar so much xD)

Yeah I'm going to go see her I'm one year away from 18, dammit, but I'll find a way in. My uncle knows pretty much everyone that works at the venue.

Also i liked her album but there's no way that it has more substance than either of the dolls records (which where both wonderful and I hope Brian and Amanda sort out their problems and record a new one soon.)
