One song means nothing. And you obviously don't share a good sense of music. Really? Black Ice? Bah.

I'm very tolerable of music and have tried for awhile to get into Indie mainly by suggestions from a guy at another forum. The only bands I found I liked was Franz Ferdinand and The Flaming Lips.

Re: Top 5 Albums: 2008
1. Franz Ferdinand I wouldn't really call "indie". And yes, they are good.
2. Same with The Flaming Lips 3. Taste, sense, same thing. 4. Vaati, you're obviously the "rock out, bang your head, jump around" type of music listener, and I'm going to assume that's the reason most of the indie bands you've listened to suck to you. Search for indie bands that are like that, then I'll bet you'll find some good stuff.

Re: Top 5 Albums: 2008
I feel like putting Fleet Foxes at the top means I'm just copying pitchfork's choice, but honestly, I had decided it was more or less undoubtedly the best thing I'd heard in a long time months ago, so I don't think it makes me a hipster douche.
1. Fleet Foxes - LP/EP (Because it's ****ing unique, and I love it.) 2. Vampire Weekend - LP (Because it's the best, most self-aware pop in a long time) 3. Los Campesinos - Hold on Now - Youngster... (Because their music is calculated yet energetic, and it excites me in many ways) 4. Bonnie "Prince" Billy - Lie Down in the Light (Because he's getting more and more influence from the greatest facets of American folk) 5. Vivian Girls - LP (Because they make good music and I would do them) Honorable Mentions The Dutchess and the Duke - LP (Because I'm impartial to Seattle bands) Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!! (Because Nick Cave makes good music and wrote a great movie that everyone should see) Okkervil River - The Stand Ins (Because even though this wasn't nearly as good as their 07' album, they're still going very strong) The Magnetic Fields - Distortion - (Because Stephin Merritt is my hero) Kanye West - 808's and Heartbreak (Because Rolling Stone is wrong and this album is great)

Re: Top 5 Albums: 2008
No. Dragonforce is Dragonforce just to be Dragonforce. Hell, they're so "good" the guitarists mess up constantly during live shows. Why? Because they wanted to be teh awshum! and made impossible songs to play.
And the singer is just horrible. If you want Dragonforce, but someone that's actually good, try Coheed and Cambria. And if you do, please for the love of god, don't just get Welcome Home.

Re: Top 5 Albums: 2008
I was being sarcastic, which should be evident based on how completely, utterly far removed my top five albums are from anything like Dragonforce.
Also, here's DEFINITIVE PROOF that coldplay stole viva la vida. (just to make it clear, it is a joke video. I wasn't going to say anything, but I can imagine some hardcore coldplay fans responding without even bothering to watch it.) http://www.somethingawful.com/d/news...tole-video.php

I get a different feeling when I listen to say, Between the Buried and Me's self titled or A7X's Unholy Confessions. It feels more real and I can identify with the emotions more than in BMTH. ![]() Saturdays = Youth by M83 I'm new to this type of music, but this definitely stands out for me. It's poppy and fun to listen to. They balance the use of guitars and synth to create a sound that is soothing and calm, while intense and rhythmic at the same time. Definitely my pick for 2008 next to Viva la Vida. |
