New James Bond Song: Another Way to Die-- Jack White at his best!

Truly awesome. A great song. I could listen to it all day long. Jack White is, truly, the second coming of Rock and Roll. Seriously, his music is truly amazing. It recaptures the true feel of old school rock and roll, while it still captures the trends of new music. What did you think of this song? Jack White wrote it, as you can tell, and I really think it's one of his best works.

It's nice. It's interestingly powerful sounding for Jack White.

Still bares his trademark lack of complexity however, which isn't disappointing because I've come to expect such from Jack White. Simple and catchy but without that daring tantalizing complex edge I typically look for.

It is catchy, but really I think Chris Cornell's was better.

It is NOT Jack White at his best but it definitely is Jack White and he carries the White Stripes/Raconteurs feel into this song. I detest Alicia Keys, but Jack White made the song more than bearable, because I idolize him so much. (For the record, my vote as Jack White's best goes to either "A Martyr For My Love For You" or "Catch Hell Blues" from The White Stripes' Icky Thump album, or "These Stones Will Shout" or "Carolina Drama" from The Raconteurs' Consolers Of The Lonely album.)

Seriously, I'd worship Jack White if it weren't against my beliefs. I wish I could! He's amazing, and even a wussy pop-princess singer like Alicia Keys is made to sound amazing through the awesome that is Jack White.

I might actually go out and watch Quantum of Solace, just to hear this song.

So, what, you people LIKE this as a theme song for a James Bond movie? No, bad, wrong. It's a good song, sure, but as a James Bond theme it's TERRIBLE. It doesn't have the same level of epic as Goldeneye, or naturally You Know My Name, or pretty much any of them.

It's hard to beat Cornell, but this doesn't even make the attempt.

Chris Cornell's song, in comparison, is a good Bond theme. He got the idea, White & Keys just wrote a straightfoward rock tune.

I like it, but I don't see how it would work as a Bond theme.
And it's pretty average for White, I'd say.

We've got one thing agreed. Jack White is very overrated. I mean I can see how someone who doesn't play guitar could be lulled into thinking Jack White is good, but he's really about average as far as skill is concerned. I've been playing for only about a year and a half without lessons, and their isn't a single Jack White tune I've heard that makes me think "that would take me more than 10 seconds to learn."

I mean he's not really bad, just not anything all that special either.

I know that Jack White is no virtuoso. He's certainly not Eddie Van Halen or John Frusciante. Jack plays a lot of power chords, has a TON of songs with I - IV - V chord progressions, and derives many of his "blues" songs from simple pentatonic scales and minor modes. That said, it's how he goes about this that makes him so amazing.

Nickelback plays a lot of power chords, too, but their power chords just sound big and dumb. Jack White's power chords seem to communicate so much feeling and emotion that a root, fifth, and octave shouldn't normally be able to do.

I know it's not really the notes, it's the whole stripped-down Jack White/White Stripes experience that's so great. Things are so bare and raw with The White Stripes that real emotion can shine through when other artists lose emotion in over-produced guitar noise. The simple drum accompaniment and dumbed-down chord structure let the true gems shine through: the carefully-picked lyrics and Jack's dynamic voice that croons on one track and screams with the best of them on the next and truly makes you feel. THAT is why Jack White is amazing.

I don't really like this Bond theme that much; Cornell's was better.

Usually I'm a fan of Jack or the whitestripes, but this...how exactly is it Bond? I can't feel this doing anything for a Bond film, let alone being a good song. I'd say its passable, for a song performed with Alicia Keys. But defintately not a song I'd choose to listen to in my free time.

I understand that Jack White can convey a lot feeling through his music (this is particularly shown on Elephant's songs. Among guitarists, though, this is pretty common.* He's just about average, not amazing. I know it's unfair for me to compare him to guitarists who obviously are more show-offy but I feel like a blues track from John Petrucci (his solo stuff, obviously not Dream Theater work) or Eric Clapton is much more emotionally heavy than something from White. I mean obviously he's better than Nickelback or Daughtry, but that's pretty much a given for any guitarist who plays more than powerchords with small major intervals.

*I mean like REAL guitarists. Not boring rhythym-based musicians that crowd the airwaves.

Just came back from seeing QoS, and I have to say the opening song was extremely mediocre in practice.

Felt completely faceless, hollow, and flat. Forgettable.

I thought the opening animation that went with it was pretty cruddy in comparison to Casino Royale's too, but that's me. And I noticed as we were in the cinema watching it that Alicia Keys' singing isn't exactly above par in that song either.
