Listen to only ONE band the rest of your life.
If you only could listen to one band/artist the rest of your life, which band/artist would you choose? I guess most of you will choose your favorite band at the moment. But it's cool if you consider different aspects, and have some kind of motivation.
My choice is Radiohead Why? They have such an extensive catalog and have done lots of different things and can encompass lots of different emotions so that be nicer than having a band with only a few cds or what not. My second choice is The Skatalites.

I'd probably have to go with The Clash. Not only did they span genres like no other band dares to do, but they were wonderful in everything they did.
Second choice? They Might Be Giants. I'm going to want to have some fun too if I'm stuck on the same band forever.

Re: Listen to only ONE band the rest of your life.
I would choose Faith No More.
Simply because, over the course of their six albums, they encompassed so many different styles, it's like having four different bands. So, while I'd technically only be able to listen to one band for the rest of my life, there's enough variety in their music so that I wouldn't get bored. Other choices would be Blur, because I've been listening to them pretty much my whole life, or SuidAkrA who are probably my favourite metal band.

Re: Listen to only ONE band the rest of your life.
My first choice is David Bowie since I truly do think that he is a god, and he too does have an extensive catalog spanning decades and crossing into many genres. Second choice would be The World/Inferno Friendship Society since they are my favorite punk band and are just a joy to listen to.

I mean, I didn't actually post anything, and there's really no physical proof that I ever said anything to that extent, but seriously, about I week ago I thought to myself "Discussion or possibly just his troll persona, depending on whether or not he is a troll, and if so, how much his trolling is a reflection of his real self, probably really likes David Bowie." Anyway, there are plenty of bands I would probably choose if they actually had a larger discography, like Neutral Milk Hotel or The Arcade Fire, but regardless of how good they are I couldn't just listen to two albums and a few EP's for the rest of my life. On that line of thought, I'd probably have to go with Bob Dylan, Billy Joel, or The Beatles.

Koji Kondo or Daft Punk, most likely.

Re: Listen to only ONE band the rest of your life.
Ooooh. Mean.
I can't imagine not getting sick of any band after listening to them for too long. But if you asked me that right now, there's a good chance I would say Radiohead. Although their discography isn't exactly that diverse (well, a little), they are just so goddamn good. And I'm still not entirely familiar with a lot of their stuff. So yeah, they might do. Edit: Just realised that the OP said Radiohead too. Haha. I need to read threads.

Re: Listen to only ONE band the rest of your life.
This is like saying your favourite band.
I'll go with either Iron Savior, SoaD, or Savage Circus. Overall, I'd go with: ♫♫♫♫♫♫____♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫_______♫♫♫♫♫♫♫______♫♫♫♫♫♫♫ ♫♫♫♫♫♫♫__♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫____♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫____♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫ ♫♫♫_______♫♫♫_____♫♫♫___♫♫♫______♫♫♫___♫♫♫___ _♫♫♫ ♫♫♫♫♫♫♫__♫♫♫_____♫♫♫___♫♫♫______♫♫♫___♫♫♫____ ♫♫♫ ♫♫♫♫♫♫♫__♫♫♫_____♫♫♫___♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫___♫♫♫____♫ ♫♫ ____♫♫♫♫__♫♫♫_____♫♫♫__♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫__♫♫♫____♫♫♫ ♫♫♫♫♫♫♫__♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫__♫♫♫________♫♫♫__♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫ ♫♫♫♫♫♫♫___♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫___♫♫♫_________♫♫♫__♫♫♫♫♫♫♫

Wrong, Radiohead isn't my favorite band/performer. It's just the one I would pick.

Some people aren't reading the opening post! TSK TSK.
Anyway, I'd probably just shoot myself and save myself the angst. That's a 'roundabout way of saying I'll need to meditate on this. |

Like Holic, Radiohead isn't my favorite band ever. I picked them because they have a nice wide variety of sounds and loads of different subject matter. Not just "girl, I love you" or "the world sucks"

Re: Listen to only ONE band the rest of your life.
There's a lot to consider to answer this. First, you'd obviously want a band with a pretty extensive discography. While some albums are well worth listening to over and over again, being able to only listen to a band that only has one or two albums could certainly mean that you are going to want more variety later on. So volume is important.
Same thing has to be thought of when it comes to variety. You want a band that doesn't release the same album over and over again, you'll want a band that experiments with different sounds and styles in order to get some variety. So looking at my library I have four artists from which each has six hours or over worth of music. All four of them have great variety in their sound and have evolved with each release, but two of them do it excpetionally well. It just so happens that I think that my favourite band is also the one I would listen to if I could only listen to one band for the rest of my life. Barenaked Ladies. I've already been listening to them for over half of my life so far, and they've held up amazingly well. I still listen to their albums that I got when I was just a kid, and enjoy their new stuff just as much. They are (presumably) going to continue to release music for at least a few more years, so their catalog isn't closed yet. They have great variety, from pop to blues to jazz to rock to folk. They write silly love songs and they write songs with a strong political message. Overall, I'd say I could do worse than listen to only them for the rest of my life. |

Re: Listen to only ONE band the rest of your life.
I'd say U2, because they have an easy-to-listen-to history of music. There's also upbeat, and good lyrics.
They're also still recording, and their new stuff doesn't suck. =D

Re: Listen to only ONE band the rest of your life.
Led Zeppelin. I need not reason, for that is how awesome they are. They're not my favorite band of all time, but if I had to listen just to one band for the rest of my life, it would be them.
