If I had to make a decision it would to not listen to music. One artist isn't enough, not by far.

Re: Listen to only ONE band the rest of your life.

Hmm...well I practically live off one artist already, but recently I just switched to listen to another artist exclusively, with a taste of others at random times. These two aforementioned artists are Of Montreal and Modest Mouse. And t would be impossible to choose one of the other. But, for the safe of hypotheticals, I'll list reasons as to why I would choose one if I did.

Of Montreal: 10-13 albums (I always forget exactly how many, plus a new album coming out in...October?) including numerous LPs and EPs, ranging from soft indie-rock to soft indie-techno-rock, and not a bad egg between them. Kevin Barnes, the main writer/singer/performer, is a musical genius, drawing from everything, from greek mythology to Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolff. He has the ability to make a whole album that's essentially *****ing about his divoce philosophical, deep, and endlessly enjoyable.

Modest Mouse: It's Modest Mouse! Six(?) albums, though while not much differentiation, that are so good, you can't help but to enjoy them. And in fact, there is a little differentiation. While mainly the same genre, the songs are each drastically different with each album having highs and lows that appeal with the same effect. Plus, I also like the ocean.

As for a seconde (or really, third) I would say Coheed and Cambria. Why? While they do little to break the barrier, or hell even to touch the barrier, they do such a damn good job, it doesn't even matter. But, considering their lack of discography, I might instead go for Radiohead..or perhaps...****, I don't know.

Re: Listen to only ONE band the rest of your life.

I thought long about this one, I first wanted to post a silly rock band as well. But then I realised. If I had to listen to one band for the rest of my life I'll need something more than rifs and cords.

This was when I came to the conclusion that it would be something more classical. After considering a dozen names, I concluded with the fact that you can only really take one.
Pavarotti.

I couldn't think of anything that could convey emotion better than the wonderful pieces that make up the late tenors repertoire.

Re: Listen to only ONE band the rest of your life.

Probably Porcupine Tree.

Mellow, ambient, alternative, and tastefully heavy.

Second choice probably Between the Buried and Me.

I'm a glutton for punishment, so I would listen to Barbara Streisand for the rest of my life.

Re: Listen to only ONE band the rest of your life.

I cannot honestly think of any artist that, if I listened to them long enough, I would not get sick of.
I've even gotten sick of my favorite band. ._.

I'm tempted to say Coldplay or Death Cab for Cutie. The former is a band I've never quite gotten sick of, but also don't think I could only listen to. And the latter is awesome, but I only know three of their albums, and one of them I didn't entirely like.

So back to square one of "I don't know".

This is hard.
Roots is awesome
Bob Dylan's amazing...etc.
I'd have to say the only one I could listen to forever no matter my mood...would have to be audioslave.

I think I agree with this man, really. Having to listen to just one band's music would cause insanity after a while, so I think it'd be better to go without.

What do you mean like other bands do? I could name at least five that do it better.

And that doesn't bother you about Incubus or Avenged Sevenfold?

Led Zeppelin is like, the only choice, obviously. Not my favorite band, might not even be in my top three. But they cover four genres, and have a massive discography of ten albums, and extremely varied live performances. Robert Plant is a lyrical genius, and Jimmy Page is probably the most inventive guitar player, period. The other two members just make the band go from something great to something phenomenal. I couldn't have any other choice, even if they aren't my favorites.

Probably my most listened to artist, but it's a toss up with Rage Against the Machine.

Re: Listen to only ONE band the rest of your life.

Impossible. I think I would die of boredom if I could only listen to one band the rest of my life. Even if they have variety in their sound, I still now its the same band and no matter what, the songs will always be similar, because every band has a certain trademark sound about them that identifies them as them.

But...if I had to choose it would have to be a band with a lot of catchy beats and good for singing along to like The Dresden Dolls or Garbage. Something really chill that I can just hang out to would be really handy too, like Jimi Hendrix. I've been in a really chill mood lately and I've loaded up on Hendrix so....I don't know really...

And you see, here is the problem. There are just so many options and thank god for that. I will never have to choose between any band. Because the day that happens is the day I die of boredom...

Avenged Sevenfold, sure. But Incubus is one of the only optimistic sounding bands I've ever heard. I can't even think of a song where they "whine".

Re: Listen to only ONE band the rest of your life.

Ok, so muse sucks because of their depressive sound, but avenged sevenfold doesn't suck?

And uh, I've sent you like six Led Zeppelin songs, and all of them were positive. I think they have no more than... five, maybe six songs that are negative sounding. And none of them are serious, they're stories or re-writes of other artists.

I think what you meant to say was that Incubus was the only modern band that was slightly optimistic sounding. It's kind of true, though. Today's musicians really are too depressed to play anything good. They would rather concentrate on the bad.

WHAT THE **** ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? Sad songs have been being written for ages.

Also:

Vampire Weekend
They Might Be Giants
Any ska band besides Streetlight Manifesto

Just to name a FEW - are happier than any of the grinding repetitive **** from the past.

Which is one of the bands that span genres better.

Jimi Hendrix, I don't know if he counts as a band but I shall list him anyway.

Joe Walsh

The Eagles

The Beatles

The Doors

Heart

Styx

Queen

Bad Company

Bob Segar

Need I go on?

Very true. But it seems that now a days, more and more songs are getting sadder and sadder. I hear maybe one classic rock song a month that's sad. The only one I can think of off the top of my head is Paint it Black by the Rolling Stones.

Classic Rock fans are probably the third most facepalmingly annoying type of music fans.

"It seems"
You don't listen to much modern music, do you? Probably just the stuff that gets overplayed on the radio?

Nothing wrong with sad music, anyway.

Re: Listen to only ONE band the rest of your life.

I don't listen to the radio, actually, at all, as far as modern stuff.

All the modern stuff I've heard is just stuff that people listen to over speakers, and such.

Nothing really wrong with sad music, other than that it just gets so damned annoying after hearing nothing else for a while. Although it serves a great purpose in making the older, happier music more refreshing than ever before.

I'd say rap music listeners are the first most facepalmingly annoying type of music fan. And I do agree, that classic rock fans are the third most.

"OMG Rolling Stones Pink Floyd The Who Bob Dylan are gods and omg you can't touch them! Don't even try! I can't beleive you don't like them. Go get shot you *******!"

No. Just no.

Well, my fave Band is Testament. I would pick them.

Whÿ? I just never seem to get tired of their stuff. Its amazing.
Like this song: YouTube - Testament Return to Serenity
I would post the music vid but on the music vid they cut the song short and they cut out the amazing guitar solo.

Testament a veriety of mellow music and heavy. I just never grow tired of them. I dunno why.

Death Cab For Cutie

MSI's music is basically trash but I'm addicted to it. CSS makes me smile and happeeeee. Chiodos... Is Chiodos. Yay. Death Cab because it makes me feel lovey-dovery. >.>;;

Opeth. Plenty of variation and they're awesome.

I guess if I had enough weed Porcupine Tree wouldn't be too bad either.
