And yeah, in BMF he does go really high, but I can't say I feel he uses his voice nearly as well. It's still got some remnants of his, well, barbaric voice from the first two albums. Sure, he's way better by that point, but not near the levels of Superuknown and Down on the Upside.
I prefer the singing on Superunknown as well.

I'm moving my family's vinyl collection to a different room, and I found this album, threw it on. Thoroughly enjoying myself.

JUDAS PRIEST: SAD WINGS OF DESTINY

(Recorded at Rockfield Studios, Wales, November/December, 1975

Rob Halford: Vocals
Glenn Tipton: Lead & Rhythm Guitar, Piano, Background Vocals
K.K. Downing: Lead & Rhythm Guitar
Ian Hill: Bass
Alan Moore: Drums

track 1.4.7. by G.Tipton , 2. by G.Tipton & R.Halford , 3.5.6.8.9. by
R.Halford, K.K.Downing & G.Tipton)

1. Prelude (instrumental) 02:01
2. Tyrant 04:29
3. Genocide 05:46
4. Epitaph 03:08
5. Island of Domination 04:25
6. Victim of Changes 07:54
7. The Ripper 02:51
8. Dreamer Deceiver 05:54
9. Deceiver 02:43

Out of the horizon, came Judas Priest's big hit album. Of course, there was "Rocka Rolla" which was their first album ever, but this album set the stage for more to come. With songs that were one hit wonders like Victim Of Changes ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TRZhUj6CB5E ), songs that were heavy as hell like Tyrant ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_ZsERw4pWo ), and then straight to songs that soothed the soul but gave great rocking feelings like Dreamer Deciever/Deciever ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTbkU0nYQMI ), Judas Priest helped set the stage not only for Heavy Metal, but the Rock/Metal Genre entirely. Crossfades, High Vocals, Double Guitars, Ballads, they helped begin it all with this album.

If you are a true metal, or even rock and roll fan, and believe you have heard the 70's, and you haven't listened to this album: You're obviously lying through your teeth. You must have this album if you wish to truly know music

Say what you want, but admit this: This is one album that is a must have in every CD collection

Dredg- The pariah, the parrot, the delusion

I was kinda disappointed at this album the first time I heard it. After the 3rd time I heard it I discovered how much I love this album.

I have to listen to the whole thing at once, or I won't get the same experience. It's great!

Every song on this brilliant album by Phoenix is just sure brilliance.

Standout songs for me; 1901, Fences, Love Like a Sunset and Rome

Spank Rock impress with their debut outing, although being released in 2004, I only picked it up recently and am very impressed with their electronic sound mixed with great vocals. Think The Cool Kids mixed with Handsome Boy Modelling School with a Daft Punk twist.

Standout songs for me; IMC, Rick Rubin, Bump, and Compitition.

Christian Death - Only Theatre of Pain

This is the best deathrock album I have ever heard. I'm a huge Christian Death fan (Rozz-Era) and if you want something deep and soul-crushing, this is for you. The music is a predecessor and an influence on a huge number of bands. Something no death punk should be without. Only Theatre is full of black, profane mysticism of the most taboo kind, filled with chants, spoken word poetry, cries of pain. It makes good use of every ounce of darkness without ever seeming tacky or forced.

Re: Favourite Albums/Album Recommendations

I feel like doing this.

mewithoutYou - Brother, Sister (2006)

"I do not exist" Aaron Weiss half-muses, half-mutters over the soft sounds of rain and what seems like an organ. So begins one of my favourite albums of all time. An album I have listened to more consistently than any other album over an extended period of time. Two and a half years from when I first heard it, this album still delights me, moves me, and makes me think like almost no other piece of music has done before. From start to finish.

Like many great albums, Brother, Sister functions best as one piece of work, not a collection of songs. Certainly the songs can be listened to, and work individually, but its best to experience them as part of a larger whole. From the repeating close of opening track "Messes of Men" leading to the clashing downbeat opening of "The Dryness and the Rain" to "Orange Spider" musically connecting itself to "C-Minor" by bringing in the instrumental and vocal help from members of the band Anathallo to the mix. The aforementioned "Orange Spider" is just one in the 'Spider Trilogy,' a trio of tracks that serve as pseudo-interludes pseudo-introductions to each following track or series of tracks and the musical stylings contained therein.

But the album isn't just connected by the music leading seamlessly from one track to the next. The album also has various themes and images woven throughout that make it better as a whole. While the religious themes the band is known for (not preachy, more about lyricist Aaron Weiss' personal experiences with his faith, his conflicts and successes in at suchlike) are present, the album also uses plenty of weather and nature imagery. Indeed, every track on the album refers to at least one animal in some way. The album, as the title implies, also focuses on opposites, of sorts; dichotomies almost. Lines like "Oh, there I go / showing off again / self-impressed at how well I can put myself down." from "Wolf Am I! (And Shadow)," "The fish swims in the sea / while the sea is in a certain sense /contained within the fish" from "The Dryness and the Rain" and "You say Judas was a brother of mine? / Oh, but sister in our darkness a light shines!" from "O, Porcupine" highlight how these dichotomies are used in various ways.

The musicianship is amazing as well. Especially noteworthy is the work of guitarists Michael Weiss and Chris Kleinberg (in his last appearance as a band member), whose guitars weave and dance among each other creating a near-perfect sound every time. Throw in the guest musicians on flugelhorn, melodica, harp and more, and you have a varied musical experience to say the least.

Of course, I can't talk about this band without mentioning the vocal style. It is, in my experience, unique to the band. Nobody can quite pull out the speaking/shouting/singing style that Aaron Weiss employs. This album, for me, is his best vocal work. Melodic enough that it is quite accessible (though still not for everyone), but still not quite out-and-out a singing performance, and the shouts and speaking truly add meaning to already meaningful lyrics. The album also features guest vocals from Sunny Day Real Estate frontman Jeremy Enigk on a few tracks, and his contribution of "O, Porcupine" is one of my favourite parts of the whole record.

This is a record that I love to listen to because it is awesome music, but it is also one I love to listen to because it makes me think. About life, about religion, about my relationships with my friends and family, about nature and the environment, about a whole myriad of subjects. All that from an album that starts with the half-mused, half-muttered line "I do not exist." And as the guitars, bass, drums, accordion, melodica, and other instruments drop out leaving a sole harp on the final track "In a Sweater Poorly Knit," those four words are repeated again, this time sung with a sort of sad joy, "I do not exist."

I felt exactly the same way. On that note...

Dredg - Catch Without Arms

If you haven't heard Dredg before they're tough to explain. They're artsy, but nothing you'd ever call weird or experimental on this album. They're kind of like semi-underground alternative rock. Not too heavy, not too light, not very weird, but certainly not boring. Catchy, but not overly repetitive. A very fun album that doesn't get old dispite its straight-forwardness.

This is just a really spectacular album. Definitely one of the best bands out there right now.
