![]() The Darkest Spark by The Ghost Is Dancing. It's an indie rock band from Toronto. I need to get off my lazy ass and go music researching more often. I'm not used to listening too albums all the way through and actually enjoying every song on it. This is new to me, and I think through my new found adoration, I feel as though I should recommend this. It's a lovely album. And, gosh darnit, I think there should be more trumpet solos in songs these days.

![]() Viva la Vida, by Coldplay. I know many of you have the song Viva la Vida, but I actually would recommend the entire album. Each song is unique from each other, and I like the element of "very hard, soft rock". I just can't stop listening to them .

well they'll have to wait a while. you have to have been around for 25 years. (25 years since the release of the first LP I believe).

I'm not a big fan either. Their music is dreary as hell.
Derek and the Dominoes' Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs is worth it for the title track alone, but literally every track on this album is solid gold. My personal favorite here is Thorn Tree in the Garden. Almost like listening to a Croce tune. Just lovely.

I only like The Moon and Antarctica, all their other albums only have a handful of good songs, The Moon and Antarctica only has like, one bad song (Perfect Diguise). Although it's the one I've listened to most so maybe the others will grow on me.

Re: Favourite Albums/Album Recommendations
My very favourite album just has to be Superunknown by Soundgarden. Everything about that album (aside from Half and Black Hole Sun (lol flamurz)) just clicks together perfectly, and to add to that Chris Cornell was pretty much at his peak (Down on the Upside is debatable in regards to his singing). It's also very long and has amazing variety. Balancing those two with the incredible quality they managed to conjure is some of the most amazing thing I've ever seen in the music industry.
After that is Vheissu by Thrice. Not a very heavy hitter on the mass market, but overall it has all the qualities that make Superunknown so amazing. Only thing that's missing is the length, grungy feel and amazing vocalist. Which is basically what places it in second. he is awesome at screaming though After that I'd probably say Nine Inch Nails' The Downward Spiral. Best metal album I've ever heard. It actually keeps on the whole amazing variety + quality deal the other two have going for them, but it still isn't quite as good as they are. The next is basically a toss-up between Ten, by Pearl Jam; In Utero, by Nirvana; Core, by Stone Temple Pilots; Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness and Siamese Dream, both by the Smashing Pumpkins; Dirt and finally Alice in Chains, both by Alice in Chains. While these don't capitalise as much on variety as the top three do, they all have amazing quality that just places them above everything else I've ever heard. City of Evil, by Avenged Sevenfold, gets an honourary mention for being the next step beneath the list up there. |

As far as vocals go, yeah, I'll agree. Chris sounds absolutely phenomenal on this album. But have you heard Badmotorfinger? Some of the songs on that album actually hurt my vocal chords, just hearing them, because he goes so high. Superunknown is my all time favorite album as well, it's too bad Soundgarden broke up. And yeah, in BMF he does go really high, but I can't say I feel he uses his voice nearly as well. It's still got some remnants of his, well, barbaric voice from the first two albums. Sure, he's way better by that point, but not near the levels of Superuknown and Down on the Upside. And no, I haven't heard Waking the Fallen, I'll have to check that one out... |
