Speaking of Avenged Sevenfold.

If you liked City of Evil, try Waking the Fallen. It's just as good, if not a little bit better.

Pretty much every track is good if you can get past the screaming vocals. (Which I don't really like.)
What? I like them both! What's wrong liking A7X and Slipknot?
I do have Waking the Fallen, and i actually enjoy the screaming vocals.

I tend to LOVE greatest hits albums the best. There is one album I grew up with that I still love to this day:

Transistor - 311

Definitely one of my favorites. A very natural, watered-down, and at the same time, artificial and experimental album. No two tracks are the same. Like all of 311's albums, it takes some time to get used to. The songs range from mellow to hard from funky to smooth and fill all the areas inbetween. It's everything I'm looking for in an album. I love it.

Re: Favourite Albums/Album Recommendations

Merriweather Post Pavilion is by far my favorite album of the year thus far, and will definitely be in my top five at the end of the year.

My Girls, Summertime Clothes, Bluish, Lion in a Coma, and Brothersport are probably the highlight tracks, but the whole album is very listenable.

I really think the production is great, it feels like Animal Collective's entire career as been working up to this. They mix great avant-garde ambiance with perfect pop sensibility, and top it off with complex rhythm and bass. I really can't recommend it more highly.

Animal Collective inspires a lot of hate and usually brings up arguments about the value of experimental/ambient music, but I think they generally have a good enough sense of pop and respect for the listener to strike a good balance. Their only major mistake was Campfire Songs in my opinion. Although Danse Manatee wasn't great either, possibly worse, but I think it gets too much ****.

I don't know if you've listened to Person Pitch, Panda Bear's 2007 solo album (his third I think), but that's also a favorite of mine.

Also, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart's eponymous debut is pretty good too. Reminds me of Architecture & Morality, which is probably my favorite 80's synth albums and definitely OMD's best. If I ever make a movie, I want to have a scene with someone lip-syncing Joan of Arc. I love that single for some reason, his voice is just the right mix of uncomfortably off-key and passionate.

Re: Favourite Albums/Album Recommendations

My album purchase of the week! (Yay look at me making cameo appearances outside of the clan arena)

Firstly! Icehouse - Man Of Colours. (September 1987)

Right, well I absolutely love this album to pieces. Of all the Icehouse stuff I've heard over the last few years, most of my favourites have come from this album, so I legitimised my pirating of said songs and purchased the album itself (At a lovely $9.95! Thankyou Rocking Horse. <3) the other day and got to hear the rest of it.

Some song's I'd recommend off the album: (basically the stuff they released, actually.) (And totally not because I'm laughing at Iva Davies' 80s hair either. >_>)

1. Crazy - Feel free to laugh at his hair.
2. Electric Blue. - My personal favourite.
3. Man Of Colours. - A bit of a slower song.
4. My Obsession. - I also quite like this one.

Ohhh... everyone should hear that album! It's perfect!

I recommend...
Teenage Panzerkorps - Games For Slaves

Basically a sort of lo-fi type band that sound like Joy Division and The Fall. Fronted by a husky German (though all their members are spread out across the world I think).

The Gaslight Anthem - The '59 Sound
(August 19, 2008)

Songs for the Jersey shoreline. New Jersey gets a lot of flack for being a bit of a dump of a state, but some awesome stuff has come out of there. The Gaslight Anthem being one of the better things churned out by the Garden State in recent times. Following in the footsteps of Bruce Springsteen and other pioneers of the Jersey sound, vocalist Brian Fallon and the rest of the band power their way through twelve tracks with only a short break near the end for "Here's Looking at You, Kid" to catch their breath.

The record opens with "Great Expectations" and the sound of a record needle hitting the vinyl. An appropriate sound to start an album that wouldn't sound out of place in the turntable era. Fallon sounds a lot like you would expect Springsteen to sound like if he had a bunch of tattoos and grew up listening to punk rock.

Each track is a real winner, most of the ones that really jump right away are grouped to the start, including the title track, "Old White Lincoln," and "Film Noir."

The subject matter is decidedly Jersey, themes include growing up working class and driving with girls. The tracks are chock-full of references to Springsteen (natch), Tom Petty, Bob Seger, Counting Crows, and Bob Dylan. Some cleverly veiled, some out-right homage.

Bottom line: This is one of my favourite records right now and if I had heard it last year when it was released, it would have been a serious contender for album of the year. If you like good old rock music, Springsteen, or punk you will probably find something to love on this album.

Re: Favourite Albums/Album Recommendations

Just read through the thread and thought I'd post some favorites. (don't hate please Dx)
Santi- The Academy Is...- Probably my most most played album. Has great variety. Highlights: Same Blood, Everything We Had, Seed, Chop Chop, and You Might Have Noticed.

All We Know Is Falling- Paramore- Great debut from a great band. Highlights: All We Know, Here We Go Again, Emergency, Pressure, and My Heart.

If Only You Were Lonely- Hawthorne Heights- A great album kind of depressing though Highlights: Dead In The Water, This Is Who We Are, Saying Sorry, Decembers, and Pens And Needles.

and
Folie A Deux- Fall Out Boy- Had extremely low expectations after their last album but was pleasantly surprised. Highlights: Disloyal Order Of Water Buffaloes, She's My Winona, w.a.m.s, (Coffees For Closers), and What A Catch, Donnie
