arn't they the same thing? what someone considers the best, isn't going to be the same as what someone else considers the best. Not the same. You have to be impartial and say which bands/artists actually influenced the scene that they're from and had an impact.

I don't like classic rock, and I don't like The Beatles, but I'd have to say The Beatles, since all the influence and stuff. Then again, I guess I like a few songs by them.

And what about Kiss?

Some of the music from the 80's was actually pretty decent. Heard Asylum?

I don't dislike Kiss, I just think the pairing of their costumes and music doesn't fit. I don't think they did anything special for the rock scene.

The White Stripes. Hands down. A band doesn't have to be "classic" to be the best. Jack White is the most incredible musician alive right now. He is such an amazing storyteller, guitar/piano player, singer, and music composer. The White Stripes belong right up in that list with the rest of all of the classic rock.

Yes they do. Influence isn't worth a ton in this day of ultra-experimental musical stuff. The White Stripes are amazing because they have taken the best of rock and made it their own, while at the same time adding their wonderful quirky little... quirks. Like acoustic power-chord songs or bagpipes and mariachi bands and single-note 1940's synthesizers or verses filled with people just talking.

Seriously. Once you get past "Seven Nation Army", there's a whole amazing world of The White Stripes out there. Stuff you wouldn't even think to associate with the same band that does Seven Nation Army.

What makes a band 'the best'? Wouldn't the one you think is 'the best' be your oppion...?

I think Metallica is the best hands down.
