That's stupid, and this thread is somewhat stupid, too. There never will be a 'best' rock band, because every band influence(s/d) things in their own different way. Zeppelin took blues and gave it a bit of aggression, Metallica started what we know as thrash today pretty much (the same could be made for Sabbath on the topic of metal in general), and the Beatles made good songwriting a standard.

Nirvana suffers from 'dead-singer syndrome'; they wouldn't be half as popular today if Cobain hadn'tve killed himself. He'd be singing duets with Whitney Houston for his new comeback album as we speak.

The one song AC/DC write is okay.

Floyd practically invented progressive rock, so yeah, they're pretty damn good if you like ambient soundscapes and noodling prog rock.

Guns 'N' Roses are just old-school metal watered down to a radio friendly level.

No seriously, I don't think Floyd is accesible enough to be voted 'best' - the 'ambient soundscape'-thing is the same reason I'm not particularly fond of, say, Genesis, or even Radiohead.

I do agree with you on everything else; although you forgot 'The Jack' (AC/DC actually made two songs! ).

You're right on Metallica starting trash, 8bit was saying trash metal.

I didn't like the video for the one known song, a friend of mine is totally hardcore fan, though. Refused, Fugazi and Black Flag are his three favourite bands.

Well thinking they're all badass and stuff, yet (and I've read a few articles on them, etc.) the music they write is, in my opinion, rehashed and rehashed and amazingly radio-friendly, even for their time.

Of course I listen to punk. I've got Black Flag's Damaged on vinyl LP But then again, I listen to most rock-related genres (except for progrock. Not my cup of tea I guess). I've been listening to Minor Threat and Jaya the Cat a lot lately.

Although the record on right now is Paul McCartney's Memory Almost Full so I shouldn't boast to much about punk music

I don't think any of those bands are "the best" and really, you can't expect everyone to have their favorite bands be those top 10, just becuase they are the most well known, or most famous doesn't make them the best. Since everyone has different opinions on music, everyone's gonna like someone else. And besides, does rock entail just classic rock like the bands you listed? or does it entail newer sub genres like...oh say, surfer rock, or punk rock, or metal?

He asked for "The Best"/most influential or whatever, not your personal favourite.
