Re: Classic Rock

A few years back, I was a kid whose musical arsenal contained various flash and pop radio whores who shall go unnamed. One day, I randomly came upon a burning house. I could hear cries from inside. No one else was around to play hero, so I took it upon myself to do so.

Just inside, I came across a middle-aged chick, laying at the bottom of some stairs, with her one of her legs all twisted. I drag her out. Important plot point: there was a small box she held, and she cradled it like a newborn.

The lady was quite gracious. For saving her life, she passed that box onto me. Inside was the Complete Led Zeppelin Collection.

My musical oddysey started when I got home. I threw in LZ I and my eyes and ears were opened. Soul, heart, lyrical excellence and skill; you can never hear that on mainstream radio.

Favorites: Ten Years Gone, Tangerine, and Achilles Last Stand.

Other than the bands already mentioned, I have much love Hendrix, George Harrison's solo work, and Santana's early stuff.

Yeah, I love some classic rock. I've recently taken a HUGE interest in Creedence again. I hadn't listened to them in a while, and then "Up Around the Bend" came on the radio, and I've been listening to them damn near non stop for the past few days. Of course all the mainstays are awesome too: Zeppelin, AC/DC, Anything Clapton was involved in(Cream, Derek and the Dominoes, Blind Faith, etc), Billy Joel, Journey, etc.

Oh, and ****ing Boston. Whenever I'm in a crappy mood "More Than a Feeling" takes the ****ty mood and destroys it.

Re: Classic Rock

Classic rock is the best. None of today's music can even compare to it.

Styx is awesome, my favorite songs by them are Blue Collar Man, Renegade, Snowblind, and Miss America. But Rush, Boston, and Heart are all really good too. REO Speedwagon apparently was big then, but so far I've only heard two songs I really like, Roll with the Changes and Don't let Him Go.

Can somebody tell me some REO Speedwagon songs that are really hard-rock? I saw one on a live video with Styx, but I can't remember what it was.

BTW Has anyone else noticed how great classic rock bands are live?

Re: Classic Rock

Is Bruce Springsteen considered classic rock? o.O

Anyways. I like him. Also. These bands:

Boston
Kansas!
Aerosmith
Journey
Morrissey? Dunno if he's classic or not.
Lou Reed
And probably others I can't remember.

The division of music into genres really, really makes me angry and annoyed for some reason. If it features guitar, drums, bass, or a general format similar to that, than it's rock. Then it's either modern rock (which generally sucks in my humble opinion), or it's classic rock. "Glam," "Metal," "indie," "prog," "punk," "hardcore," "emo," "heavy metal," "hard rock," I hate all that ****. It's all the same ****, it's just listened to by people with a different sense of style.

In other words, classic rock is a genre.

im also likin heart a lot at the moment, though not so happy about the way they ended up in the 80s with all the power ballads. thats not to say i dont like stupid 80s glam etc....
I hate their style in the 80s, it's disturbing. Ann Wilson has looked so incredibly different over the years. If you compare her modern, very fat self, to her 80s self, and her 70s self, someone who's never heard of heart would think it's three different people. And they're probably the band that's swapped out more members and gone through the most changes. I swear they're like lynyrd skynyrd. Oh well, never heard a song from Heart that I didn't like. That's one positive to Led Zeppelin. 100% original members, except for their drummer who died. And his son Regardless, I've plays drums for them now, which is close enough. Although he has some gigantic shoes to fill. I think his old man was probably the best drummer alive.

Quote:
Black sabbath i think can be considered classic rock and i love them too, and all of ozzys stuff after they split (except anything involving Kelly osbourne).
Rock? Yes. Classic? Yes. Therefore, classic rock.

Quote:
Arrr..theres loads... Rush, even though theyre prog they still fall under classic rock i think. Led Zep, Alice Cooper, Motorhead, Van Halen, Iron Maiden, Tom petty, Cat Stevens, Bob Dylan etc etc etc. But at the mo i like Glam lol
Rush is indeed classic rock, and indeed, they do rock.

Oh my god. That would take me years upon years upon years upon years to manage. I would not physically be capable of comprehending that much music.

Re: Classic Rock

Wayward Son is an amazing song.

Buying albums is so ten years ago. Just pirate all the music, it's not hard or disrespectful or anything. The only reason I would buy music is because I want to know the lyrics, or because I want pictures of the band members doing naughty things.

Who's everybody's favorite guitarist?

The guitarist for Black Sabbath. He has no fingertips and has to use plastic fingerends to play. Hardcore.

Re: Classic Rock

My favorite guitarist is James Young of Styx. His solos on Renegade and Snowblind are pretty good. Also he's a nice guy. Good morals and stuff for the most part, and he still rocks.

Ah. Being an aficionado for a certain brand of music doesn't mean one has to know every detail about said music.

Is that really true about Ionni? Hmm. He's a decent guitarist.

I really like Keith Richards, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimmy Page, and Eddy Van Halen. My favorite classic rock guitarist is probably Roger Fisher and Nancy Wilson. They play very, very well together. They were in perfect harmony.

My absolutely favorite guitarist doesn't count in this thread, because he's modern.

jeez! i wasn't trying to get anyone to buy the album from amazon specifically, basically just showing what it looks like and showing what songs were on it. and as a matter of fact, a lot of people DO like to buy albums because of the art and liner nots, plus cd's sound better than MP3. especially with the subtle nuances of classic, and prog rock.

Re: Classic Rock

CDs have... MP3s on them. So saying that a CD sounds better than MP3 would be saying a CD sounds better than itself. Your last sentence was either not in english, or in some sort of code language because I could not understand it. I know the word "subtle" but apart from that it was very confusing.

Me buying a CD would require serious recommendation from friends.
