Re: What Type of Instrument Do You Play?
As my name states, I play guitar. Electric, acoustic, bass, and 12 string. I taught myself almost entirely by ear, though I did get a head start. I can play piano really well and therefore read music. I have been told that I can sing. Plus, there are the other "sub instruments": harmonica, jews harp, ocarina, recorder, and impromptu drums (you know, knees, books, things like that.) I am learning a few brass and woodwinds at the moment though.

Re: What Type of Instrument Do You Play?
guitar here. I dabble in drums. I'm not bad for having to real training, so I'm sure if i had a drum set of my own, I'd get really good. I'm pretty good at doing different things with different hands, and I have really good rhythym (heh heh)
But I've played guitar since age 5

Re: What Type of Instrument Do You Play?
Woodwinds FTW!
I'm a bassoonist, obviously. I really like playing it... I never understood the joy of playing a musical instrument until I picked up the bassoon. (Although the saxophone's pretty cool, too, there's nothing like the bassoon. =P) *is obsessed* I play the piano, too. However, I'm not really any good at it. I'm learning it just because I'm a music major, and I have to. Otherwise I have a keyboard, and I enjoy playing it quite a bit. I mostly use it to compose, and help me with hearing things for Aural theory.

I've also played piano for quite a while in the past, though I haven't played in several years now.

Re: What Type of Instrument Do You Play?
A long time ago I took lessons for the piano and oboe, but I thought both were kind of boring and eventually quit after a while. Everything I learned was through rote memory because despite the training, I've never been able to read sheet music at all. Still can't. Sometimes I'll mess around on the piano and figure out things like NES Mega Man music, because they have easy melodies, but that's as far as I go.
I also inherited an awesome banjo, but I don't know how to play it. :[ |

Re: What Type of Instrument Do You Play?
I started playing guitar, but I hated chords, so I switched to bass, which is what I play in my church band. Then when the lead guitarist quit my band, I switched to rhythm and the rhthym switched to lead. I learned chords, and they rock!!!
I also play turmpet, but I don't like it that much...

Re: What Type of Instrument Do You Play?
I play the Viola. What's that? You've never heard of the Viola? That's because it is too damn awesome. All the sexy deep sounds of the cello without lugging around such a giant beast. Plus, it doesn't produce tinny squeak-like sounds, like those silly violins.
You just got pwned by my viola's awesomeness. |

Well, I've been playing the piano for almost 2 years now, and I am really obsessed with it. I'm playing on an old Baldwin acoustic from the 40's, and it sounds... pretty good...
Howewer, I listen very much at classic music, and my favorites are: Beethoven, Chopin and Mozart (as piano composers). I'm hoping that one day, I will own a grand pianoforte. I make my own tunes, as well.

Re: What Type of Instrument Do You Play?
I am a percussionist. I play all percussion of course (yes, believe it, I don't play ONLY DRUMS.) Snare drum, bass drum, xylophone, bells (keyboard of course), marimba, sus. cymbal, cymbals, timpani, chimes, yadda, yadda, yadda. You get my point. I have tons of variety. I'm thinking of getting a flute too. The brass players at my school have a stupid grudge against the percussionists. I really hate them...

Re: What Type of Instrument Do You Play?
I play every brass instrument except for the French Horn, and I have played them for five years now. I'm in the school concert band and the jazz band, where I play the trombone, but I've played the trumpet and the euphonium before, and that means I can play the tuba and the baritone if I wanted to (they are the same fingerings, just transposed down a whole step).
I play the piano, and have been taking lessons for more than half my life (nine years of lessons....), so I like to think I'm pretty good. I used to really hate the piano, but once I got to the point where I could play anything I wanted (with enough practice...), and where I knew enough theory and wast fast enough with chords and fingerings and scales to compose my own music, I started to love it. It really helps with other instruments as well. If we're playing the Eb Dorian scale in jazz band, for example, I can visualize a piano keyboard and every single degree of the scale, and then translate that into trombone slide positions. It's great. I wouldn't trade my piano skills for anything! I'm also a beginning guitarist. With the musical background I have from the piano, I've been learning very quickly, but it's still tough for me to change chords in time. If I don't know a chord or want to experiment around with chords, I can do it fairly easily by building it up by string, but it's slow work with learning how to move my fingers fast enough (I play the piano, so my fingers can fly, but only in piano-playing or typing position. Moving fingers up and down a fretboard uses entirely different muscles...) Anyway, yeah. Music is my life, and in a few years I hope to be able to have added three or four more instruments to this list, including maybe the saxophone, the drum set (if that can be counted as an instrument), and the upright bass (those things are so awesome...)
