Moi!

You seem to be into Power Metal. I recommend you try out Blind Guardian and Helloween, if you haven't already. Two of the very first and best bands of the genre.

Re: favourite metal bands

I like alot of different metal.
Stratovarius, Children of Bodom, Black Label Society, Mushroomhead, Mudvayne, the Kovenant, Devil Driver, Diecast, Lamb of God, Old Mans Child, Naglfar and many more.

Please, hold your comments about 'that band' sucks.. because obviously if I listen to them, I dont care and dont think so.

The thing about Dom's list is that he only listens to like two of those bands on a regular basis.

Re: favourite metal bands

Lets see... here are some metal bands that I have been listening to a lot lately

(The Lord Weird) Slough Feg - pure ownage in the form of a metal band. Probably my favorite metal band.
Mastodon - Their latest album is amazing
Rhapsody (of Fire) - My first taste of power metal. Warning: songs come with extra cheese.
Blind Guardian - Perhaps the best power metal band on the planet
Elvenking - Really good power/folk metal band
Sonata Arctica - Another awesome power metal band.
Slumber - Really great melodic doomish metal band, give them a listen if you haven't...seriously.

Theres a lot of bands that have been listed as metal that arent!

Coheed and Cambria - Awesome, but not metal (Welcome home is not metal either)
Queens of the Stone Age - Awesome, but not metal
Soundgarden - No
Incubus - No
System of A Down isnt metal either.

Oh well...

Re: favourite metal bands

This one? Funny thing: I've been listening to Dragons of the North by Einherjer for the last while (bought it today, in fact). Musically, they're actually very, very similar, except Einherjer doesn't have the annoying whiny vocals, and doesn't rely on as many catchy hooks. Oh, and they're totally awesome.

Despite that, "Welcome Home" is rock, not metal, and not even hard rock. What's annoying is that Coheed and Cambria have that little acoustic guitar intro, but they never develop it beyond anything. The song could have been so much more: interweaving electric and acoustic guitars with diverse vocal harmonies and a build-up into a powerful conclusion. Instead all we get is a little 10-second teaser followed by another four minutes of generic radio rock in the vein of Led Zeppelin and... yeah, Viking metal.

Re: favourite metal bands

KISS is rock as well... and I don't know if any self-respecting metalhead would label Rob Zombie as "real" metal.

I think that Welcome Home is actually fairly well done, it has this natural "dark" feeling as opposed to the forced "darkness" of most radio rock nowadays, but I do suppose that just stems from my feeling of Co&Ca being one of the more interesting and "real" bands around that get radio play. Interesting Prog. Alt Rock band. Far better than Einherjer is anyways.
