Nope. Though that trend is certainly true more than it is not. The notion that someone likes a track more because it's obscure is a ridiculous one that makes no sense at all.

if someone doesn't like the beatles that's purely a personal preference, just because someone hasn't listened to their so-called "good tracks" doesn't mean that they are automatically going to like them when they listen to said tracks - the beatles have a fairly established sound in their songs and if one doesn't like that, then one doesn't like the beatles
Spoken like someone who's heard very few of their 400-ish recorded songs.

So you're saying that everyone likes the Beatles, and if they don't then all they have to do to like them is listen to more and they magically will? :V

this pretentious attitude is kind of getting old don't you think

like asci said above, listening to more of a band's songs isn't going to make someone like them anymore if they don't already like them. if a band makes music by hitting a guitar against a tree for an hour and a half and every song is more or less like that, and they make a thousand songs, will listening to all one thousand songs make me like them? no, because they're ♥♥♥♥ing hitting a guitar against a tree

What? I don't agree with that. Kind of a weird statement to be honest.

But.... plenty of people like Metallica?

And uh, The Beatles had more variety than any other musical entity except perhaps Billy Joel. About three of their albums were samey and the rest just did drastically different things. People who call the Beatles "low quality" or say they "suck" rarely ever have heard an accurate representation of their collective sound.

If you can think of an artist who has more variety, please post songs I love to hear new music! Especially from varied musicians.

the argument isn't about whether or not the beatles have great variety or that they are good; you can argue about technical skill and musicianship for days and get nowhere

the person just didn't like the beatles.

I bet he's only heard maybe 40 songs. He could've just not been able to stand the select songs he heard, while others he might've enjoyed or understood the artistry behind.

But he also likes Three Days Grace so I just dunno.

Hey, that guitar+tree music could have PLENTY of variety! Do you know how many kinds of trees there are? How many SIZES? Plus there's a whole lotta guitars out there too!

(and actually, I'd probably listen to guitar+tree. I mean, I listen to kwwrr for ♥♥♥♥'s sake)

Re: Official Favourite Band/Artist Thread

Well mz brought up the idea that because guitar and trees would lack variety, so hearing one song would mean you pretty know what the rest sound like. The Beatles really aren't that dissimilar.

So, she's so heavy is similar to yesterday, you'd say?

Re: Official Favourite Band/Artist Thread

That's exactly my point, Asci. They explored such a wide variety of sounds. Having heard a a few of their songs really doesn't mean you know what they sound like. You posted two great examples, she's so heavy is quite a bit different from yesterday. Songs like Helter Skelter and And I Love Her are very much different, and yet the same person wrote them in the course of four years with the same group of musicians.

You'd really have to listen to like, 60-90ish of their different songs to get an accurate taste of what their music's like. They have all kinds of little hidden implications in their songs as well, stabbing at the Beach Boys, and playing with hard rock, and even bits that kind of stab at their own sound a bit.

Right, so this was because Forte says he doesn't like himself. I want him to like himself a bit more.

Some good bands in there. I like.
Though, it isn't that much. I only listen to about 7 bands, but most people here claim to listen to 300 different bands. So i'd say your list isn't terribly huge.

That list is only 1/15 of the music I've got on my iPod, I'll say that right now.

Well, how many songs by each artist is the point I'm kinda trying to make here.
