Re: The Super Mario Bros. Movie

This film is sitting close to the top of the DVD pile I should call pile B or maybe C. Watch it as a movie that references the games a lot but isn't based on the game. Except it does work well with the Alternative reality thing that many Mario games have worked with. Its not a great movie buts its damn fun, includes props based on Kuribo's shoe, a traffic grid that seems to evolved from mario kart and has monkeys in it. And Yoshi eats someone but sadly doesn't lay an egg right after.

By the way after the credits there is an extra scene where 2 japanese business men are talking to the koopa cousins about a possible video game. Don't know how many people would have seen it because I didn't think film makers pulled that kind of thing back then. Just considering the ending with daisy bursting in and asking for more help would its possible sequel have been any good?

Wow, the more I hear about this movie, the more I want to see it. About how much would this come by on eBay?

Don't hold me to it, but I think one of the reasons why the movie was so weird was because the director of the movie hardly knew anything about the games.

Re: The Super Mario Bros. Movie

Oh, I remember watching that movie years and years ago. I'll watch some youtube later on, probably in a few days as I'll be doing lots of traveling in the days to come. It's one of those movies where it's so bad it's good, being one of those cheesy 80's-90's movies and what not. I wouldn't recommend it unless you were really bored or stoned. If you want to watch a movie based off a video game that has the slightest amount of decency, go watch Silent Hill. Apart from the gender of the protagonist and the crazy religious cultists, it's pretty accurate and true to the game... in a way.

Re: The Super Mario Bros. Movie

You kids want to talk about the best movie ever based on a video game?

Compared to every other game-based film, it's Oscar quality.

I'd say the Resident Evil movies are better. But to each his own.

They aren't. They don't even follow the games.

They don't need to. Most game movies don't.

Re: The Super Mario Bros. Movie

I couldn't stand it. I started watching it, but I couldn't bring myself to watch the whole thing. >_<! But hey, according to IMDb, it was the first movie to be made that was based on a video game...

My favourite game to movie adaptions would be Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (despite it having virtually nothing to do with the series), and Silent Hill.

That's why they tend to be commercial and critical disasters. The most successful video game adaptations are 1) Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, 2) Pokemon: the First Movie, and 3) Mortal Kombat. Of these, Mortal Kombat has the highest average rating:

Mortal Kombat: 58%

Pokemon: The First Movie: 35%

Lara Croft: Tomb Raider: 33%

When compared to all three Resident Evil films, Mortal Kombat beats them as well:

Resident Evil: Extinction: 41%

Resident Evil: Apocalypse: 35%

Resident Evil: 33%

The critics agree: Mortal Kombat triumphs over all other video game adaptations.

Eh, either way, 58% still sucks balls. I guess it's better, but I don't like it.

Re: The Super Mario Bros. Movie

As far as I'm concerned the only two movies based on video games that are awesome are Silent Hill and The Wizard.

Re: The Super Mario Bros. Movie

I saw that movie around 5 years ago. My brother turned on the TV and it said "NEXT: Super Mario Bros Movie" or whatever. And we got all excited and watched the movie, only to find out it was loads of doodoo. I HATED THE MOVIE!!! That's just me though, it just didn't feel too Mario, it was incredibly boring, and made no sense to me. Even King Koop was human... SPOILER:
Spoiler (Highlight to read):
he turned into a dinosaur in the end, correct me if I'm wrong but didn't he?

I hated the movie. I like everything about the Mario franchise but I HATE the movie. I would give it a 2/10. The reason why it desrved a 2 was because I loved the elevator scene with the dancing Koopas, and I kinda laughed at that part. That's it. Toodles.
