Alien vs Predator

Ok, these two guys are very famous in sci fi. The humanoid alien hunter that uses cool stuff as weapons and the fearsome, creepy creature that spits acid and has a double jaw...

Wich one is your favorite, the Alien, or the Predator?

I prefer the alien.

I've been a huge fan of both franchises since I was little, but I've always prefered the Alien. They're far more genuinely frightening, and the movies are to a higher standard (the first three, at least), along with a more involving story.

I also like the established cycle of the Aliens life, and the manner in which they reproduce, impregnating anyone or anything with facehuggers, ending with a visceral display as the main creature comes in to life.

I'm a Predator girl! Like that sweetie, Burty, I'm a fan of both. BUT! I've always liked Predator better because... Err, I wish I had a reason as cool as the previous post, but I don't XD. I've just always thought Predator was cooler looking XDDD.

Umm, I'd obviously go for the Alien. Wherever there's an Alien there's bound to be a Sigourney Weaver, and I LOVE Sigourney Weaver! Yes, I've watched Heartbreakers

My Grandmother always taught me to judge a person by the company that they keep. What company does Predator keep, hmm? Arnie? No thanks, I think I'll pass. Now if Christina Richi were in those movies, then maybe I'd be willing to re-think things a little.

Cooler looking than a H R Giger creation?! Oh, no, no, no! PLUS the aliens have a more diverse design. You have the original style, as well as the filthy great big Queens, the "dog" alien from Alien 3 and that weird human/alien hybrid from not-as-impressive Ressurection!

Although, I think Arnie does a pretty good job in the first movie. It's a shame Danny Glover couldn't quite match up, even though I think I actually prefer the second Predator movie overall.

I did like Alien...but, you see...it all started at forbiddon planet when I was about 7 years old...

I was looking at some final fantasy figures, oh they were indeed good, but somthing caught my eye in a giant glass case in the corner of the room

A friggin huge predator model with his wrist blades extended and shoulder cannon armed.

It was love at first sight.

Although I am yet to see a whole Predator movie, Predator is by far my favorite.

Hmm, I don't think I've liked Arnold much in any movie. IMO he's never really been a huge part of any movie's success. I'm sure that there are other body builders out there who can read.

Van Damme could only watch in AWE at THAT tour de force. It's because he's so handsome in a classic, old Hollywood way, right? I have his posters all over my bedroom walls. He's up there with all the great actors. Zack Morris, Harvey Kinkle, Johnny Bravo...

If we are talking only about the movies then I have to say Alien is my favorite, but if we are including the comics, novels and everything else then I have to go with Predator. Honestly they add so much to the Predators that it easily makes them the better characters.

And btw I never understood all the hate for the AvP movies. I've been a fan of both since I was a little kid and have read most of the comics and novels and I can honestly saw I enjoyed both movies. The first movie seemed to pull ideas from the first AvP novel which is to say one of my favorite books of all time. I'll be the first to admit that the movie had some weird aspects, like the Predators being in Antartica when they don't like the cold, but I still found it to be an enjoyable movie. The second one I absolutly loved and was one of my favorite movies all year. Wolf was completely awesome and when I saw the dual shoulder cannons I was giddy like a school girl. My favorite part was easily when the army guys showed up and got slaughtered by the Aliens. It even made a little more sense out of the first Alien movie. Honestly though I would love it if they just made a move out of the first AvP novel as it is, imo, the best of the AvP franchise.

Aliens definately. without their guns, Predators would be pretty much useful. Besides, even Arnold took one down himself. Aliens have acid for blood and they aren't emo.
I honestly don't care how "bad" the AVP films are: they aren't, in my opinion, supposed to be perfect films with drama and good acting; it's a movie about aliens mercilessly beating the **** outta each other.

Predator is just...gay. I wasn't a fan of the movies. Their faces look funny.

Alien on the other hand, is excellent in every way.

This first movie is the perfect epitome of Hollywood taking something beloved, running it straight to hell, and then taking it even one step further by completely disjointing the stories and continuity, alienating the fans and basically wasting everyone's time while marring the original all in the name of the making some money at the box office. This is a movie that I immediately wish you could unwatch and erase from my memory banks.

I would be highly surprised if more time went into the script of this film than the actual marketing. The PG-13 rating should have been the first sign, a complete step away from the series already, with every previous movie being an adult themed R rated spectacle, not a nice little kids movie.

Horrible acting. Pointless plodding sub-plots. Decent action sequences and a precious few cool moments in what should have been a fan-boy's wet dream. The lead in this movie is a demographic friendly woman with barely enough acting ability to make a shampoo ad believable. Any mildly entertaining characters (Lance Henrikson, basically) were immediately destroyed in the first twenty minutes of the film with zero payout.

After mentioning it as a plus for the Alien series in a previous post, I certainly didn't like the "new" Alien life cycle. The face-hugger burst out as an alien in 40 seconds. This is truly ridiculous. Paul Anderson seemingly didn't bother watching the previous movies, and ignored what some of the greatest directors of recent years (Scott, Cameron, Fincher) have acheived for the series before.

As such, I haven't been willing to spend more time of my life watching the sequel.

Well I guess that answers my question about having read the comics and novels.

The first movie did not, repeat DID NOT, ruin any continuity. As I mentioned it took the first AvP novel and made some obvious changes to fit the setting.
No continuity was ruined in the first movie.

Not entirely true. In the first novel one Predator armed with nothing more than his wrist blades and a nagita killed many Aliens.

I was thinking a lot more about the continuity of the movies, and how it disregards any of it, instead of (what I was hoping for) ingeniously connecting the two series.

Another thing that bothered me but made me laugh, in the first AvP, The Predator teams up with the human? As if the movie couldn't get any worse.I loled so hard when I saw that.

Then you were setting yourself up to be disappointed by the movie. AvP is its own franchise and unless you go by that and not the Alien franchise and the Predator franchise your gonna be disappointed by the movie.

It's been done before in both Predator comics and the AvP comics and novles. It's not a new concept.
