Post Star Trek XI discussion thread.

Write and discuss here what you think the new Star Trek feature film will come out to be.
Do you think it's a good idea to make a movie about a 200 years before the last movie, Nemesis? I don't really know...

Why not? The movies have never been sequential really, the only thing connecting all of them is that they take place in the Star Trek universe.

After all, the original 6 movies starred Kirk and Co., just like this one will.

I agree, actually.
I just hope that this one will hold the same quality as the other movies.
(I mean, not to much violence, and more philosophic).

I really don't like the Idea of going backwards...Star Trek is about going forwards not backwards (Look at ST:ENTERPRISE) I think this will mess the time line up even more. For one, It was already established that Kirk and Spock did not meet until after the academy. (I think)

O.o that says something. I didn't capitalize Spock and I came up in the grammar check...

ST has a timeline in the same way Zelda games do: At best you can cobble a theory together, and at first glance it might seem OK, but if you look close you notice the wads of chewing-gum, forgotten facts, on desperation holding it together.

It's not messing with the timeline that worries me (that's been a staple of ST since TNG.) nor is it "going backwards", Kirk, McCoy, and Spock are fun characters.

No, it's the fact that they're at the academy that scares me.

When was the last time you saw a movie/show that took established characters and then made them younger turn out well?

I'm not a big Star Trek fan, but if I happen to catch an episode I'll watch it, and I'm looking forward to the movie, it's looks pretty awesome.
