The Hobbit

So I was riding on the T, reading the metro when I saw something caught my eye. In the corner shows a recent picture of Peter Jackson and this is what the small blub said:
"Jackson Returns
Peter Jackson and New Line Cinema have reached an agreement, and Jackson will produce J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Hobbit" a planned prequel to the blockbuster trilogy "The Lord of the Rings"

Now I knew this was eventually going to happen...but not this soon! I suppose everything needs a prequel nowadays-_-;

It's been awhile since I've read the book, so who do you think will be cast/re-cast for the roles? And tell me what you think about this.

I think this is great! I hope The Hobbit is made to be a more cheerful movie than the trilogy, because the book certainly was. I cant wait to see how they portray Beorn.

While we are waiting, we should all watch some of Peter Jacksons earlier films, such as Heavenly Creatures.

I don't think the Hobbit has the potential to be nearly as good as one of the Lord of the Rings movies. With some important characters disappearing now and then, not knowing where they go, it will be hard to make this into a movie and still be good. But I'm not saying the movie will be bad, Jackson is great. I'll still go see it.

I am of the opinion that he may choose to involve the events of Gandalf/the white council and the necromancer into the plot far more than the book did, because those events really back up the trilogy.

The book is absolutely brilliant and if peter jackson gets it right it could be a brilliant film.I can't wait to see the battle at the end.

I heard that Jackson is planning on making two films: the first to be based on the novel, and the second to be for the events taking place between the novel and the six books of the LOTR.

Anyway, I'm very much looking forward to these movies. It should be entertaining at least! And my expectation is that some of the same actors would be brought on - - but likely not any of the hobbits.
