The book takes place between 1976 and 1979. The novel opens with the monotony and horror of the daily life of the protagonist, Robert Neville. Neville is apparently the only survivor of an apocalypse caused by a pandemic of a bacterium, the symptoms of which are very similar to vampirism. Every day he makes repairs to his house, boarding up windows, stringing and hanging garlic, disposing of vampires' corpses on his lawn and going out to gather any additional supplies needed for hunting and killing more vampires.

It's a new movie coming out with Will Smith in it... It seems pretty damn good! They say it is "The Best Vampire Story Since Dracula"

I think so too...

What do you think about the trailers and such? What are your views?

I have a hard time watching Will Smith movies. I can't picture him as any other character than himself in Fresh Prince.

I don't honestly see what this specific plot can amount to. Last Human on Earth, whoop dee doo, it will be interesting to see how it turns out.

I really don't know what to make of Will Smith or his movies. Sometimes I'll think they're really good, and other times I'll just wonder why he's still employed.

One thing that I really hate though is Hollywood nepotism and if I remember correctly this is film is another showcase for Big Willie's ohsotalented children. Didn't his daughter manage to land a role in this film as well?

Watching that one he did with his son was just awful. I don't think I've ever seen anything quite as self-serving as that in a loong time. You're always left wondering when Will is just going to face the camera and tell us how wonderful a job his son is doing, how he's bursting with pride blah blah blah. Awkward doesn't even begin to cover it.

In a few years time we'll probably have to endure the Smith Family Hour every Saturday night. Urgh, the thought of Jada Pinket turning cartwheels while Will counts down to the next Willenium is going to stalk my dreams for many a night.

It reminds me of Castaway in the sense that the main character is all alone, except for his pooch.

Unlike some people on here I think Will Smith is a good actor.

I do believe this is the 3rd rendition of the book I AM LEGEND. The movie from what I heard has a different ending than the movie. Great book though. I highly recommend it.

It seems as though about 90% of the people in this thread have no idea that this is based on the book by Richard Matheson titled I Am Legend.

If you'd actually read the book, you wouldn't sound so ignorant. It's a great read.

Ok, I just read online that they are vampires (obviously stated in first post, but this was news to me. ), but they aren't the same type of vampires as we think. They are zombie vampires, as in, they hate the sun and can't be in it, but they love flesh (instead of blood). So they eat humans I guess.

And Wii Smith's body is immune to the virus they speak of, so he never has to worry about getting infected and transforming into one of them.

And.... this movie looks cooler and cooler each time I see the preview. I can't wait!!!!

A Vincent Price movie called "Last Man on Earth" (1964) was also based on the book, and actually, it's a damn good watch. I'm rather excited to see how it turns out, though admittedly, I'm not the biggest Will Smith fan.

We'll see how it goes.

I find that funny because ever since the Fresh Prince ended, I can't picture him as any other character without a gun. I'm not against guns or anything, but, considering his grandmother told him "swearing wasn't cool" when it comes to his rapping, why having a gun at all times make him cool?

Interesting Will Smith Fact: Will Smith turned down the role to play as Neo in The Matrix in order to play as James West in Wild Wild West. Boy was that a let down. Now everytime I watch any Matrix movies, I ask myself "Could I honestly see Will do this?". I mean come on, Reeves looked the part of a computer hacker and cubical rat. Will Smith? Not so much. Hmmm then again I find it funny that his wife didn't turn down the role when it was offered to her ^_^

Ok, enough Will Smith chat.

As for I Am Legend, I'm deffinentally going to see it. I've always been a fan of zombie type movies (which is what I took it for in the begining...vampires make a whole lot of sense considering we don't see any of them in the day light), so I'll give this one a try. I just hope there isn't a twist in the end of the movie where Will Smith is actually insane, and thinks he's the only one alive (but in reality that all the "vampires" are trying to cure him of his insanity).
