Your favourite musicals?

I wasn't sure where to put this thread, but I guess it could fit here (I was about to put it in Music, if you feel it needs to be moved, feel free to move it *nods*).

In Drama at school, we're studying Musical Theatre, I just posted somewhere in GCC about our class putting on "Grease" at the end of the year. It's really fun I'm playing Rizzo, the leader of the Pink Ladies. Grease just HAS to be one of my favourite musicals. So how about you guys, what are your favourite musicals?

I'm sure I have heaps to name, but I'm currently having a blank moment *scartches her chin* I'll let you guys name what you got and follow up after .

Grease! "Look at me, I'm Sandra Deeeee, lousy with virginity!" XD <333

I'm also a big fan of (guilty pleasure XD) Sound of Music XD. I looove Wizard of Oz, too. Both of those I watched as a widdle kid, so a lot of childhood sentimentality there. I'm also big on Hairspray - new version. I've not seen the older one.

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Saw it twice when I was a kid. Still remember a lot of the songs. My sister stole our copy of the soundtrack and won't give it back.

Grease. Saw it years ago, and after being a fan of the movie, I liked the stage version even more. I was in love with "Those Magic Changes" for ages. Probably still am. Again, my sister stole our copy of the soundtrack and wouldn't give it back.

Sound of Music. Only seen the movie, and my sister (SAME SISTER) watched it about a dozen times in a week. I kind of grew to love it.

Spamalot. Saw it two summers ago for dirt cheap. Was fantastically hilarious, moreso than I expected.

I'm also a big fan of Once More, With Feeling, the Buffy musical, and My Musical, the Scrubs musical. But I don't think those count.

Over the summer when I was talking to my dad about music (SURPRISE, I WAS TALKING ABOUT MUSIC!), and he revealed that he feared that we'd grow up forcing him to listen to musical soundtracks, since the Joseph and Grease soundtracks were all we listened to on car trips.

LMAO!!!

My favourite musical is Jesus Christ Superstar. Even if the production was a complete mess, I'd still love it just for that title.

If I were to write a musical, the life and times of Jesus Christ probably wouldn't be my first choice but it works in a strange way. I had first listened to one of the recordings before I ever saw any of the movies of stage productions, and I was *very* skeptical, but any doubts are dispelled after the first 30 seconds or so.

YouTube - Jesus Christ Superstar (2000) Heaven On Their Minds

This is the first track, and whilst I don't rate the singing much in this version, my first thought is always DAMN! Judas really knows how to put administer a verbal slapdown doesn't he?!

Fantastic story as well. Obviously I don't want to ruin it for anybody who hasn't seen it yet, so maybe I'd better use spoiler tags.

Spoiler (Highlight to read):
He dies at the end. I know, I was shocked as well!

Phantom of the Opera is amazing as well. I'm always checking for any current productions of that one.

Cats is still my least favourite though. Blech.

Float your Jesus.

Grease is my favourite film. Period. When I was younger I watched it about once a week. Haven't watched in ages so I have to do it at the weekend.

What the hell? No Les Miserables? You uncultured louts! I mean, I guess it's an opera, since it's all singing, but still. That's my favorite.

Oh, on a side note, our Grease Production got canned. Stupid Head of Drama teacher (who my friend and I have nick named Satan) didn't like the idea of us doing it for fun during the holidays, so she canceled it. >_> And I was looking forward to playing Rizzo, she's such an awesome ***** XD.

I'm shocked that nobody's mentioned the South Park Movie or the 100th episode of Scrubs. Those are both quite brilliant, in their own special ways.

I quite enjoyed the South Park Movie, myself. The songs were all well thought-out and meaningful.

BAHAHA. *coughs*

Well for me, my all time favorite would have to be Grease, then The Rocky Horror Picture Show, followed by The Wizard of Oz, and, I actually rather liked Hairspray.

Chicago - Didn't deserve the oscar, but it was a damn fine musical with some damn fine women. Catherine Zeta Jones in lingerie, I'm so there.

Blues Brothers - Jim and Dan in a film that really did deserve an oscar. I don't know what I like more about in this movie, the songs, the acting, or the over-the-top stunts.

Bleach Rock Musical Saien.

Greatest japanese musical ever known to mankind. It was pretty spectacular, the cosplay has been done so greatly. The characters' voices are pretty similiar as well. That's, of course, a big plus.

Cannot decide between Sweeney Todd (Johnny Depp acting with Tim Burton directing, how can it go wrong?) or Blues Brothers (best car crash in film history?). Both great films for their own reason hence I don't have a single favorite. Grease comes close behind them though.
