Batman movie series.

Anyone remember the Batman movie series? I just watched about the first two again on the Detour here in Canada ("F'in Good Movie" lineup), and I really enjoyed them once again. And seeing the new one come out, I'm surprised the Joker's coming back! Jack Nicholson and Mark Hamill made the ultimate Clown Prince of Crime back in the day, so I hope Heath Ledger comes up good, although the make-up is too unlike him...
EDIT: I added a poll on who is the better Joker.

I am a huge fan of the two early Batman movies, back when Tim Burton was running the show. Michael Keaton played an amazing Batman, along side brilliant casting for the various villains, Jack Nicholson, Danny DeVito, Michelle Pfeiffer and Christopher Walken. Batman Returns is quite possibly my favourite super hero movie ever, with a perfect dark atmosphere, great story and well developed characters, I loved every minute of it.

Since the series left Burton's hands, however, I lost all interest. Why Warner Bros. made the decision to replace Burton I do not know, but it was the fall of the series. Burton's plans for Forever may well have even added to the fantastic Returns, but instead, Warner wanted a more light hearted take on it, bringing in Joel Schmacher instead, butchering the original formula.

I still haven't seen Begins, but I hear it's a step back in the right direction after Forever and Batman and Robin.

Personally, I liked Batman more than Batman Returns. Michelle Pfeiffer was a good Catwoman, but Danny DeVito turning Penguin into a sex addict? I don't think so.

Christian Bale is at least on par with Michael Keaton, if not better. Batman Begins is excellent, and I highly recommend you see it, especially with The Dark Knight coming out.

Now, if you want a funny Batman movie, find the one with Adam West.

Oooh I loved the peversness of Penguin, it added to his sick humour brilliantly! Plus the comedy from Catwoman shooting him down everytime was great.

Better than Keaton? This, I have to see. I am a Bale fan, so I'll be open minded. One thing that bugged me from what I have seen, is the awful looking batmobile, what's with that?! Also, were you also not a fan of the 3rd and 4th installments?

Haha! I had a lot of fun watching those when i was young, cheesy, yet SO entertaining!

I thought the exact same thing about the Batmobile when I first saw the pictures, but it grew on me once I saw it in action.

I liked them as a child, but then I grew up. Now I might watch parts of them on TV just to have something to roll my eyes out and make intellectual inquiries, such as:
Why does Mr. Freeze, a man driven to save his wife that he loves beyond honor itself, have a woman in (partially) plastic lingerie running about his Evil Lair? He does nothing but shoot down her advances with puns about how cold he is, so why is she there?

I dig the first two, like most people. While sort of campy in their own way, Burton did a good enough job, and Nicholson played the Joker excellently, probably the best played villian in any comic book movie.

I actually don't mind Forever. I think overall it gets a bad rap. Kilmer wasn't as good as Keaton, but he wasn't awful. Plus, "Kiss From A Rose" is awesome.

The less said about Batman and Robin, the better.

I saw Begins once, and it was awhile ago, but I remember liking it. Not loving it, but that could be because I saw it in pretty bad quality and I think with numerous interupptions. As for the whole Keaton vs Bale debate, I'd say that Keaton makes the better Bruce Wayne, but Bale plays a better Batman.

I agree with the fact that Tim Burton was the best one. It was dark, but not too dark for some insane comedy (Nichelson's Joker to be presice, along with Devito's Penguin). I liked Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne, and he did pretty good as Batman. After seeing the end of the second one and seeing THE Tim Burton replaced, I said: "That's it? No more old-school Batman? What about Catwoman? A PROPER third sequel?" It just didn't sum up. I haven't seen Forever too much, but being a fan of Jim Carrey, I hope not to get dissapointed with his role as the Riddler. And I saw alot of B&R, and I was mildly disappointed, although I enjoyed it as a child. I wish Burton came back. JUST one more sequel would make it complete...
At least there's still the 90s animated series to finish. Mark Hamill makes a good one.
and I just rented the first one from the library. Joker: "You wouldn't hit a guy with glasses, would you?" *Batman punches Joker*

Personally i prefered the tim burton films. Batman and Batman returns were the pinnical of the series.
It went downhill in the following two films, Batman forever and Batman and robin. I think maybe putting nipples on the suits was going a bit too far. Begins was awesome and re-kindled my passion for the dark night. Cant wait for the next installment.
Being an avid DC and marvel fan it will joy to watch.

I prefer Begins because that fits more how Batman is in the comics, while the other movies don't do this. And the Batman Animated Series was finished. Batman: The Animated Series, Superman: The Animated Series, Justice League, and Justice League Unlimited are all in the same continuity. Batman: The Animated Series started in 1992 and Justice League Unlimited ended in 2007, I believe. 15 years of the same cartoon continuity is pretty damn good.

I think the only things the original films have over Begins is Danny Elfman's score, and the pseudo-1930s style. Nicholson's portrayal of the Joker doesn't define the character nearly as much as Mark Hamill's interpretation, and we don't even know yet how Ledger will measure up in TDK. Personally, my biggest hope is that Two-Face will be given a proper showing in the new franchise: there's so much left to be explored with that character.

And Solink: your sig is awesome.

EDIT: And people who harp on and on about how camp Forever and +Robin were, look back at Return's army of penguins with mind-control devices and rockets. And the 'Circus Gang' were a lame gimmick. The original is the only one I REALLY take seriously, and mostly due to the awesome portrayal of the Joker and his humour: 'He's been using... Brand Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx'

Ahhhhh, I remember his quotes. Best ones I heard in a Batman movie series:
"You wouldn't hit a guy with glasses, would ya?"
"You and me are ment together, like "Beauty an the Beast". Except of anyone else called you "Beast", I'll rip their lungs out
"You can call me... Joker. And as you can see, I'm a lot happier."
"Who do you trust? Me? I'm giving away free money. And where is the Batman? HE'S AT HOME WASHING HIS TIGHTS!"
"Bob...gun" [Bob gives gun to Joker, then shoots him]
Although Hamill has been the best Joker in ALL of the Batman frnchise, you got to admit: Nicholson did a great job for a first since 1960's "Ceasar Romeo". Seeing the new movie's trailer, I doubt Ledger will go farther than him.

I've just watched Batman and Robin today in the evening (no good halloween movies on) and liked it alot. I don't think it's my first time watching it because I kinda remembered some parts of it when I was young. The Dark Knight sounds really promising and just a minute ago I saw this picture of the Joker and I almost crapped myself! I don't know if its real (some people said its fanmade) but it looks too real. Its really disturbing but I love it. I hope the joker looks like this.

Just to tell you, anyone who can easily get scared don't click on the link.. but I don't think its that bad.. I think.

I could have SWORN it was this:
http://bifsniff.com/wp-content/files...ark_knight.jpg
I was watching the first Batman all over again. I'm not ToT because I have to stay in the house and take care of some stuff. I didn't get a costume either, and because my friend's borrowing Halo 3 until tomorrow, I wanted to watch that again. Seeing Nicholson's Joker made me laugh and compare my insanity to the character's (heh, it happens, and you know it) This Joker....just TOO scary.
And to be honest, I remember only watching HALF of Batman and Robin. I honestly think it's a bad movie, but if you TRY and enjoy yourself and not be so much of a critic like Roger Ebert, you might actaully like it. I didn't see the whole, but I "might".
I also heard that Joel Schumacher was also going to make a third one entitled "Triumphant", but ended up canceling it because B&R was THAT bad. I heard Harley Quinn was gonna be in it, with with a different character and such, played by Madonna (surprising, no? *gapes*).
It was then rumored that other characters are going to be in tDK other than the Joker, say, Two-Face or Harley. Rumors have it around the net, so I'm not going to believe them until I watch it myself. The Joker had BETTER be good. I think if it turns out negative, the Joker's "boner" isn't the only thing to be laughed at...(see siggy)

Yep, it was apperantly on one of the old issues of Batman. I was told of this and I HAD to show it.
Speaking of Joker, Nicholson WAS to be put back in Triumphant as a hallusination or such. I felt even though Joel would have been a terrible director of doing so, it'd be great to see "Jack" as the Joker again, even just one more time.

I think Two-Face has a slight chance of appearing in it because the film will have Harvey Dent. People have been saying they would have wanted to explore more of his character, like in Forever. It also mentions a small "darkness" in the character, taken from wikipedia:
Quote:
Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent / Two-Face:[16] The district attorney of Gotham City and the replacement of Carl Finch. Battling the Joker takes a dark toll on Dent. Eckhart described the character of Harvey Dent as coming from the same world as Batman, but simultaneously being apart from it. "I'm looking for the tension between the two, the similarities between the two. I want to find what's similar to Batman and then find what's opposite to him," Eckhart said.[17] Eckhart researched his approach to the complicated role by studying other personalities.[18] Before Eckhart was cast in February 2007, actors Liev Schreiber,[19] Josh Lucas,[20] and Ryan Phillippe[21] had expressed interest in the role.[22]
So I have small beliefs that he may be coming in...

Hmm.. preety interesting. So Heath Ledger is going to play joker?.. I'm not sure if that's going to turn out well. It depends, I haven't seen much of this actor. I just hope its gonna be outstanding like Batman Begins.

Spoiler (Highlight to read):
Two-Face was confirmed to be in The Dark Knight for several months now. He was in the official trailer shown only to the press and a few select fans.
