I heard he is meant to survive the pit, but I'm certain it's not shown in any of the movies.

I didn't think he was faking. It would have been better for Sid if all 4 of the dudes sent to arrest him had died in the duel, but Mace is one of the most powerful Jedi. If Anakin hadn't shown up, Mace would have killed him.

Yet Sidious was perfectly able to zap him to death. Hm.

No sh**. Everyone who saw the movie knows that he faked it in the end.
That is so obvious... I am not talking about that.

Sid took care of three of the Jedi's, but Mace knocked him down legitimately. Later on he freaked out and started blasting Mace with lightning, who blocked it and then sent it back to him. Only at this point did he start to really bull**** by using the "I can save Padme" and "I'm dying" lines.

It is to Sid's advantage to have those four Jedi dead before Anakin shows up. Sid was already trigger happy when he sent Darth Maul in the first movie, and he end up getting killed by Obi Wan. Sid had gotten so far in his plan that he wasn't going to do anything uncontrollably foolish anymore.

Boba Fett died in the Sarlacc pit, but George Lucas decided to let him sirvive when he realiced all the Fett fans. (I think it was something like it...)

No, Lucas didn't decide it, EU writers did. But it's in its own canon, but not official like the G-canon.

Me favorites are:

Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker
Even though I think his character could've been better displayed in the movies, in the books I simply fell in love with him. Silly girls that love him because Hayden is hot are stupid. He's a bad actor and I hate him. ANYWAY... Anakin went through so much pain in his life, and even after all that, he still managed to turn back to the light...with Luke's help of course.

Han Solo
Sarcastic, funny, and pretty much the life of the show. He goes through a lot of character development too. From a guy that cared about only himself, to a guy that would risk his life for a cause... with Leia's help of course. XD

Leia Skywalker
She's sassy, sharp-tongued, and not afraid to kick some butt. What really pisses me off is that she's the only woman that appears in the movies with more than a few lines. Plus she was in that stupid "damsel in distress" role in the first movie.The movies are kinda sexist, aren't they?

But all it all played out in his favor, right? He knew Anakin would come and that he would side with him, if he saw that Mace was the aggressor. Hence, right before Anakin gets in the room, he gets knocked to the floor and is "at the mercy" of Mace. It's too good for it to not have been how he wanted it to be.

Boba Fett... I mean, if a character's surname in my language means "Fat" then you have to love him, right? Boba Fat

Jango sucks though... But that's been said already.

It isn't Anakin's destiny to join the Dark Side. Remember Yoda in ESB: "always in the motion is the future". A Jedi/Sith can see what happens next, but that doesn't always mean it will turn out to be true.

Palpatine doesn't know for sure that Anakin will join him.

Amphitheater

Palpatine is trying to convince Anakin that the Sith are just like the Jedi. Anakin says the Sith think inwards, only of themselves, but the Jedi are self-less, they think of others. Seeing as how that didn't work, Palpatine then had to resort to...

Palpatine: (hesitates) did you ever hear the tragedy of darth plagueis the wise?

Nevermind that he used "the wise" but he still isn't sure this plan of his will work. There are other occasions in the movie:

Revelation:

Sidious: My master taught me everything about the Force, even the nature of the dark side... (hesitates strongly)

He does this because he is still unsure of the consequence of this verbal revelation. Anakin suddenly changed his posture, became aggressive. Instead of continuing to walk side by side with him, Anakin walked ahead to face him like he was a stranger, and later circled the sith lord. After some conversational nonsense, eventually Sidious was feeling too good and started to walk away from him. Anakin still doesn't care. He gave him the non verbal warning with his lightsaber.

Sid:...Are you going to kill me?

You are underestimating Mace Windu, he is a good fighter, supposedly at or near Yoda and Sid's level. After knocking him down, Anakin approached them. Then Sidious said something like "Anakin, I was right, the Jedi are taking over!" But Anakin just looks down on him with an expression on his face that says: bull****
