When it comes to horror, I'm the type of guy who likes realistic movies( by this I mean Horror/Drama), I hate the type of movies with the werewolf chasing people around and all that type of fake crap, instead of scarying me they just piss me off. I like more realistic movies like "The Others". What do you guys think????

Re: Best Horror Movie
Well, when it comes to horror, it all depends on mood for me. I like a good gory horror flick just as much as anyone else, but when it comes to all around atmosphere I get picky. Movies like Halloween and The Exorcist are more my style, oodles of tension and nowhere to put it.
When it comes to the best horror movie ever, I can't decide. But I can give you my favorite, and that would have to be John Carpenter's The Thing. And if you liked The Others, I would recommend checking out The Changeling, too. Quite simply one of the finest haunted house movies ever made. |

Re: Best Horror Movie
I like a variety of horror. I did like "The Others." It was a different tyoe of horror and the ending was a big surprise the first time I watched it.
One of my favorite horror movies has been the recent remake of the Amityville Horror. I just never got into the original 70's version. Though I did like its sequel: "Amityville II, the Possession." But bascially, I can get into almost any type of horror, gory, psychological, etc.

Re: Best Horror Movie
I don't really care that much for horror films, just for the fact that most of them are pretty stupid and pointless. Though I have found that I like a ton of "psycological thrillers," The Sixth Sense probably being my favorite at the moment. I do like a good scare every once in a while, but I hate the utter garbage horror films that are out there that are more humurous than they are scary.
(Though I do consider alot of the horror films a "comedy," just for the fact on how horrid some of them are, and will watch them on occasion to get a good laugh) |

Re: Best Horror Movie
The Exorcist was good. It might be my favourite. If not that, then The Shining. The Shining is a classic.
Sick Thing's ava is from The Shining, if you couldn't tell...

Re: Best Horror Movie
The best Horror movie all time was..I am not sure of the name. It was about this guy that had visions to dig in his basement. When he dug of the basement he found the skellaton of a dead girl. I watched this in Canada about 5 years ago. The movie might be called DIG I am not positive though.

Re: Best Horror Movie
My favorite horror movie is probably The Evil Dead.
My first time watching it was one hell of an experience. The movie is quite terrifying, and is also freakishly violent. Limbs get chopped off, eyes get gouged out, ankles get stabbed with pencils (still makes me wince >_>), and plenty of weird crap happens. The ending is so over-the-top and surreal, as well. I also really liked Day of the Dead, though I wished it had less swearing and more zombie action. If you can't tell, I prefer gory horror movies.

Re: Best Horror Movie
It's easier for me to point out some of the movies that I don't like, and there is one in particular which I absolutely cannot stand. That movie is Cabin Fever. That movie is the absolute worst I have ever seen. Hm, where could I possibly begin...
Firstly, there is no murderer at all in this movie. They all die of a flesh-eating disease. If not, then they get killed in some weird accident. Secondly, at one part in the movie one of the women in it realises she has the virus when she is shaving her legs and her skin is falling off. You think she would clue in, but the dumb blonde just keeps shaving her legs as the skin's peeling off! I mean WtF! Thirdly, none of these retards out in the woods decide to go and get help, until one point in the movie where their car hits a deer and its head slams through the windshield. Very predictable. Fourthly, at some gas station/store in the middle of nowhere, the owner has a son/daughter (I still don't know what it was) that randomly does some pointless karate kicks and spins in slow motion, and is not spoken of ever again. Lastly, at the end of the movie the store owner (who does not like African Americans) sees a group of African Americans coming towards his store. He pulls out a gun from under the counter, and as they walk into the store, he hands them the gun and greets them with open arms and knuckle-ups. To summarize, this may not have made that much sense to you but I've been dying to ramble about that movie for some time now. It sucked. Never see it on purpose or accidently. As for my favourite horror movie, I'd have to say the Excorcist. Creepy, but good.

Re: Best Horror Movie
Grouping horrors and thrillers together, I don't have a lot of favourites. I find them pretty boring most of the time, but I usually can't sleep through them because of the loud music or noises that often accompany them. I did manage to fall asleep during The Ring though...twice.
I do like the classics. Hitchcock's got tons of great horrors and thrillers, but my favourite of his is Psycho. Also a fan of The Shining and The Exorcist. Beyond those I don't really watch any, at least not any that I enjoy.

Re: Best Horror Movie
From what I've heard, Saw II is amazing. Plot-twists galore
I've always found that horror films that feature real humans as the enemy are the scariest, because they're all possible. Stuff like with zombines or devils is obviously exaggerated, but when you put a frightening situation into a something that can actually happen, it's definitely scary. Films like Audition, as I've mentioned before, always give me the creeps. Likewise, even less-gruesome ones like "When a Stranger Calls" are really bone-chilling. Eeesh. That famous scene in When a Stranger Calls was surely a masterpiece |

Re: Best Horror Movie
I love horror films, and it's easy to chose my favourite.
The Wicker Man - Along with Vincent Price, Christopher Lee is the greatest horror actor ever, and this is without a doubt Lee's best performance, and the best character he's had to work with. The film is handled superbly, so subtle in its execusion, and although it doesn't offer any major frights, the tension is kept screw tight throughout, with the foreboding of Lee and his villagers looming over Woodward's character masterfully. The Wicker Man doesn't appear much, although the closing scenes of the film ensure that it wont be forgetten easily after the credits have finished rolling. I don't think I'll be going to see the re-make. |

I don't know if I really like horror movies... But I do watch them sometimes. Most of what I've seen is just crap. Bad luck maybe. I do like Ringu and Ringu 2, haven't found Ringu 0 yet. I've also seen the American versions, the Ring and the Ring 2, and they suck. 2 was so bad it was ridiculous. I just saw the Grudge yesterday, the Japanese version. Boring and pointless. Maybe I should see the American version to see if they added a point. The Shining was good. Not all that scary in the end, but a good movie anyway. So was Stir of Echoes. I don't like movies like Scream. Psychokillers, screaming, running, blood. Scary? Boring. I like movies that build the athmosphere... I don't think I know how to explain... I'm not even sure myself what made Ringu 2 a really great horror movie in my mind. It just is.
