Opedius Rex.

All I can say about this is, it's one ****ed up incestuous journey.

Spoiler (Highlight to read):
It starts out with a soothsayer coming up to the loved King Oedipus Rex. Now ack in those days the soothsayers, also called oracles, were seen as the fortellers of futures. They foretld prophecys, and wanred danger. How did they do this you might ask yourself? Halucinigenic Gasses. Yes, the went into their caves and got high, though this was not on purpose, but that is beyond the point. He tells Opedius that he is the murderer of a great king, the reining king before him. The preceeding king died on a journey, and Opedius slayed a spynx and took over, marrying the old king, King Lyacus's wife. The reining king, distraught, talks to his wife. She tells of a story of what she heard about her first husbands death, and that it was by robbers. She then tells him of another oracle coming to the first king telling him that his son will kill him and mary his wife. Yes, that's right, the first kings son will marry his mother. So once their first child is born, he has the boy tied to a tree and cast over the highest cliff, or so he thought. Still talking with his wife, the reining king tells a tale of how he killed a man, who fit the description. He becomes very distraugt and runs in his house. Then a messenger comes bearing great news. The reining kings father is dead. This means that the prophecy for the reing king did not come true, he did not kill his father, and he did not marry his mother. All is well, almost. A sheperd tells the tale of how a man gave thereining king to the kings parents, so he is adopted. The man that gave the Opedius to the shepard was the man who was supposed to throw Opedius off the cliff. You know what this means? The man he killed in the feild was his father, and the woman he married is his mother.

That's how far I got in the play, there's bound to be more twists, turns and WTFs, and I can't wait to see them. This play amazing, and I can't wait to finish. Anybody see this, any comments?

Uh oh, I spelled Oedipus wrong in the title, anybody care to change that?

Re: Opedius Rex.

I read that book in English class. The story was inspiration for Sigmund Freud, who coined the term "Oedipus Complex". Basically, if you have an Oedipus Complex, it means you want to kill your Dad and have sex with your Mom. Yuck. Well, that's Freud for ya...

Re: Opedius Rex.

Good play. I'd suggest reading "Antigone" afterwards, as that is about the descendants of Oedipus, who have a whole mess of problems of their own. In terms of what happens at the end of the play, well it doesn't end happily, but its not the end of Oedipus' suffering by a long shot.
