Star Wreck

I searched, and didn't find anything about Star Wreck around here, or then I just didn't search good enough. Anyway, I thought I had to fix that. Star Wreck is too great for people not to know about it! ^^ And it is a movie, or six movies actually, so it should be here in the movies, right?

Star Wreck is made by Finnish sci-fi fans. It's a sci-fi parody, mostly about Star Trek, but there's a lot more than just that. The latest movie, Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning, is the first full-length movie of the series. It's also the first Finnish full-length sci-fi parody. Pirkinning took seven years to be completed. It's made by amateurs, but doesn't look like it. The special effects are awesome, and humour is everywhere. The acting is somewhat amateurish, duh, but it doesn't matter. All Star Wrecks are indeed in Finnish, but have English subtitles.

The long awaited movie was finally finished this August, and now it's available for everyone to download, legally and free, on the official website: www.starwreck.com

I think In the Pirkinning looks wonderful. It's amazing what home computers can do if you know what you want and how to get it. Also the music is well done, not just some pieces taken from elsewhere and quickly thrown together. It works and fits perfectly. The plot as it is is really funny. I don't know how some of the jokes work in English, since I didn't read the subs when I saw this thing, but I've heard they've done a good job translating.

I don't have much to critisize, really, I just think it's a really great movie and fun to watch. I hihgly recommend for you people to see it too. So, anyone who has seen it, tell me what you think.

Heard of it, never watched it. I figured I wouldn't enjoy it much because I'm the rare kind of nerd that doesn't like Star Trek. And I'm not surprised there wasn't any thread on this before, because this thing isn't so big outside of Finland. Then again, it isn't so big here, either.

I was wrong to say it's mostly about Star Trek. It really only looks like it. Some basic ideas like the P-Fleet and their uniforms and ships are taken from Trek. Really it's more about sci-fi in general. I don't think you need to like Trek to like Wreck. I'm still asking you to give it a chance, but... your choice, of course.

How about Babylon 5? There's some good throws at B5 too in the movie... Anyway, if you like sci-fi, and like komedies/parodies, I'm telling you you're missing a lot if you don't see this... At least go and see the trailer, it'll only take you few minutes, it's right there on the website.

OK, I watched the trailer, and started downloading the movie about a few nanoseconds later. Looks pretty funny. "Onks jotai sanottavaa ennenku me räimitään teiät palasiks?" XD

Well, the actors were pretty bad, but what else can you expect?

But where's everybody else? They probably see the title, think of Star Trek, think of trekkies, and run away as fast as they can. ...don't do that, people, please. I'm not begging, no, I just want Wreck to get attention! I know people outside Finland know about it, and like it. But apparently none of those people hang around here.

I watched the trailer yesterday and quite enjoyed that. Probably going to download it sometime later. The English subtitles in the trailer made sense for the most part, sometimes there was a bit of a dodgy translation but it was good overall. The effects certainly look top notch. Favourite part in the trailer: "Tactical still doesn't have a chair"

I had heard of Wreck before on Slashdot I think and was intrigued by it. When I saw this thread I was like 'oooh, Star Wreck....'

...I was hoping to get a bit more attention to this one... but whatever.

But have you two watched it yet? If so, did you like it? I just can't get over how much better it is than any other Finnish movies I've ever seen, and better than many other movies made around the world. I love this thing!

No, not yet... But I definitely won't just let it lie around on my hard drive without ever being watched. And I gotta agree, this already seems like the best Finnish movie ever made. Then again, every single Finnish movie until now has pretty much sucked. But you know, I think Jadesoturi (a Finnish kung-fu movie in the works) might just beat this one too.

I hate topics where every other post is made by the same person who started the thing. Sorry. I hate myself now too. But I just got the DVD in the mail, and watched In the Pirkinning again. I just love it! And there was a Making Of documentary, which was fun to see. They've really put a crazy amount of work into this... I would never have had enough patience. Good thing there are hard-working and funny and devoted people in Tampere...

And now I got a strange urge to find some B5 somewhere. It's been years since I last saw any of it, and it was a really good series too.
