Zoolander
I checked and didn't find a thread on this.
I just saw a bit of this recently, and I've seen the whole movie two times already. I first saw it at a girlscout camp sleepover when I was with girlscouts a few years back. I thought I was going to hate it, but I liked it. I saw it again with a friend when we were on vacation together, and we both loved it. It's a strange phenomenon, this movie. I usually dispise these teen movies, with their constant sex referances and penis jokes. That stuff just isn't funny to me. And while Zoolander could easily fall into that catagory, it's different. There's something about it that I find just so hilarious, and I can't figure out what it is. The actors that act in it- like Will Ferrall, I usually dispise (and I'm not very fond of the stuff Ben Stiller's been in). And yet, in this movie, I love their preformances. Will is a perfect Mugatu. Ben Stiller's a perfect Zoolander. I'm almost embarassed by liking this movie. It's style and some of it's humor isn't the sort of stuff I usually fall for. But it has the sort of subtle humor I love in it too. The dialogue is hilarious, like the quote I have in my sig, which is just so funny when Zoolander says it: Derek Zoolander: Moisture is the essence of wetness, and wetness is the essence of beauty. And other quote I love: Derek Zoolander: Wait a minute. I might just have an idea. They'll be looking for us at Maury's right? But they won't be looking for... not us. Derek Zoolander: I'm not an ambiturner! (I don't remember the exact lines.) And the lovely sensitive scene: Matilda: I became... Hansel: What? Matilda: Bulimic. Derek Zoolander: You can read minds? And my favorite scene with the tiny model of Zoolander's school: [unveiling a building model] Mugatu: I give you, "The Derek Zoolander Center for Kids Who Can't Read Good." [Derek looks at the model for a moment, then throws it on the floor] Derek Zoolander: What is this? A center for ants? How can we be expected to teach children to learn how to read if they can't even fit inside the building? Mugatu: Derek, this is just a small... Derek: I don't wanna hear your excuses! The building has to be at least... 3 times... that size! Which is funny because of the way they say their lines, as well as the fact that 3x the model's size would still be way too small. So the movie has some big time flaws, but I still love it. I've heard lots of people that hate it call it immature and unfunny and disappointing, but I don't see how. Of course, I don't know what it is I find so funny about it either... Anyway, I'm wondering if there are other Zoolander fans out there, or whether I should be ashamed for finding this movie so funny. :p |

Re: Zoolander
Yeah, it's a pretty good movie. I wouldn't go as far as to call it brilliant, and it's not really Ben Stiller's best but still...there are some damn funny bits in it.
As you said, the model of the school was hilarious, so was the bit when the mermaid commercial comes on when he's in the bar. There a lot of comedies that are way funnier, but this is SO much better than all those crap teen movies and such.

Re: Zoolander
Yeah, I'm one for stupid humor, so I loved this movie. I like anything with Ben Stiller or Will Ferrel. They're good actors. The movie was really good from a comedic point, but as a movie yeah, it wasn't too good. I just view it more as an hour and a half joke than a movie, helps me enjoy it more.

Re: Zoolander
That movie is so stupid, but stupid funny. I own it, and my favorite parts are "the day spa", the gas station, and the coal mine. There are quotes that are stupid funny, but they have been said already.
