Gaming taking the movie road

Prince of Persia...the Movie
Quote:
Jordan Mechner, who created the videogame, wrote the movie adaptation, which he and I are executive producing with Jerry Bruckheimer Films at Disney. The script is great. Next step is to get a director. That discussion is just beginning.

I get more comments and suggestions about this project than any other. So let me clarify what I know, and what I don’t know. First, the movie is much more like The Sands of Time than Warrior Within. Second, we have no idea who will star in it, nor where we will shoot it. Third, that’s all I know. Or at least, all I can say."

the guy who's talking is john august. he's written the last three tim burton movies (corpse bride, charlie and the chocolate factory, and big fish) aswell as charlie's angels and titan ae.

Splinter Cell...the Movie
Quote:
DreamWorks is close to acquiring the film rights to Tom Clancy's videogame Splinter Cell, with Daniel Pyne (The Manchurian Candidate) attached to write the script, says Variety. The studio would take the project over from Paramount, where it was originally set up last winter. Michael Ovitz, Clancy's longtime manager, is still producing.

Metal Gear Solid...the Movie?
Quote:
"Hideo Kojima is finally thinking about invading Hollywood as well." After mentioning Metal Gear Solid series' huge sales numbers (14.63 million units in total), the article makes a brief mention of how Hollywood studios have courted Kojima for years to get the MGS film rights. It goes on to mention that "Kojima, a movie buff and occasional film critic, has held off on selling film rights until now." It then quotes Kojima as saying, "Things one can express in a game are different of those in a movie...It would have to be a very different script, almost a different story."

Doom....the Movie
Quote:
The character of Sarge (played by The Rock) is a homage to Master Sergeant Thomas Kelly, one of the main characters from the video game "Doom 3".

Halo...the Movie
Quote:
Microsoft has signed a deal with two film studios to make a movie based on its popular space-based video game series "Halo," a spokesman for Universal Pictures said Wednesday.

Well...this is all interesting. The Prince of Persia movie has a chance of being good, the Halo and Doom movie...meh. I'm hoping with all my power that Hideo Kojima does not give in to the movie buisness but It would be interesting to see what he can do with movies. Some people would probably get bored of all the talking and get confused with all the concparicies...I have a hard time keeping up with the plot in his games.

Re: Gaming taking the movie road

Metal Gear Solid would work if they changed the codec sequences into shorter ones and used Christian Bale as Solid Snake. I don't know if they would be able to make good boss sequences, though.

Splinter Cell sounds nice, but the characters are lifeless and don't really belong in Hollywood.

Re: Gaming taking the movie road

Splinter Cell could work as a movie it has some story to it and sam fisher is a really cool character.

DooM and Halo wont work the thing which makes them good is killin things whether it be elites or massive dog like thing with 700 teeth (DooM) not te story its the fear they give in the games and the killing not good movies.

As for Splinter Cell and MGS they could work......

Re: Gaming taking the movie road

Yuck, watch all those movies become failures.

But hey, they'll sell amazingly well in the box office for about a week or two before people start to realize they suck. Don't get me wrong, they're good ideas, I just don't trust gaming movies.
