Which Willy Wonka is better?

I just saw the new movie yesturday. I want to hear your thoughts.

Well, the new one, becasue he looks more pimp!

Both films are mad as hell. That's their selling point! I like the new one because it's modern and every actor/actress in it is fantastic, of course it wouldn't be the same without good old Johnny Depp.

I saw a clip of the older version in HMV the other day and it was the bit where everyone has just got into the lift and is hitting the walls along with Willy Wonka (trying to find the door!!) and that just made me laugh but I havn't seen the old one in aaages so I'm a bit biased with my opinion. From what I know, the new one is the best

I like the new one better, though the old one is good for nostalgia.

That is the funniest picture I've seen in a long time... thanks for making my day. Oh, but Gene Wilder (right?) is so good, and also kind a creepy in a way. One of my favorite actors of all time, so I have to go with him If you haven't watched Young Frankenstein yet, do it or penguins will kill you. They're always watching.

But Johnny Depp looks like Marilyn Manson in that picture, plus he looks anemic and creepy. Not too good. Actually, he's anemic looking like the person he voices in Corpse Bride If you don't watch that movie next month the penguins will cut out your eyes and feed them to the squirrels.

In terms of which one stay truer to the book, the new one is better.

My personal favorite is the new one because it actually made me laugh, which the old one didn't.

Well Personally for me the Old one. The new one had more of the gay Michael Jackson feel. The director actually wanted Depp to act like this and I think he did a good job. Anyone even tries to quote me I will Attach the live video of him telling him to do that.
Also In the new one ONLY Charlie could go. In the old one charlie and his grandparents.
So its like Neverland Ranch All over Again.

This is not a Micheal Jackson Arguement so dont even start it up. These are my views and opinions.

Both movies were pretty good, bit I think some parts were better in the new and others in the old, and for sure Gene Wilder was a better wonka then Depp. If it was possable to combine both movies and just have gene and the old lumpas in the new one, and it would be great. And of corse you cant leave out the song he sings on the boat.

I think they were two different interpretations of the character. I feel that Gene Wilder's interpretation more represented a real person, some one who way eccentric, but could actually exist in the real world. Depp's interpretation of Wonka was eccentric, but so out-of-this-world strange that you would never find a person like him in the real world. Both have their positives; People can sympathize with Wilder's Wonka as he faces the competition stealing his ideas and seeing children, the very people he makes candy for, turn against him and try to steal his ideas. Depp's gets some sympathy for his backstory, but he's so off-the-wall that you really can only laugh at him, which makes it an overall funnier Wonka. I can't really say which is better, or which actor did the better job as they both performed exceptionally well as the character as they interpreted it.

I liked the old one better, the new oompa loompa's look a bit strange (yes they were always strange but these new ones...) and this new Willy Wonka reminds me of Micheal Jackson for whatever reason.

The old one is my pick. Wilder was a better Wonka than Depp could ever hope to be.

I love them both. You need to think that they are two completely different films and remember that Roald Dahl *HATED* the old film which was why Tim Burton made the new one more or less true to the book.

Wilder is a more loveable Wonka, certainly, but Depp has that insatiable Depp charm.

I pefer the older one, Gene Wilder's character as Willy Wonka was eccentric to the point of believibilty(is that a word?). Depps version just seems to "stupid" to be a good Wonka.

Johnny as Willy Wonka is classic. I watched the original last night, and it was Rocky Horror kiddie-fied. The characters in the remake seemed more accurate, and of course, Johnny Depp was brilliant. ^_^

Well Johnny Depp is good in everything he does. Especially when he plays a dark character like Edward Scissorhands. Or a slightly eccentric character like Willy Wonka.
(For a 40 year old guy hes pretty hot too.....)

Older.

No one can top Gene Simmons. Not to mention the ending sucked ass on the new one, it bored me and I actually yawned a few times through the movie. Gene Simmons was much more entertaining. Not to say that Depp wasn't, he just wasn't the best Wonka.

I'm basing this off the commercials since I haven't seen the movie-- but overall, Wilder's Wonka seems better on many levels. Johnny Depp is a solid actor, but his general direction of the new Wonka just seems so stale in comparison to his 70s counterpart. He's strange, but he dosen't seem to have that level of depth Wilder carried.
