Sin City

I was just wondering if anyone has seen Frank Millers Sin City, and what they thought about it.

I absolutly loved this movie. The way they captured the graphic novel feel was amazing. I thought the acting was top notch, and the story kept me at the edge of my seat.

Re: Sin City

Best movie all freaking year. I absolutely loved it. The cinematography, acting, plot... it was an all-around excellent film.

Which reminds me... I need to buy the DVD sooner or later. I want to see it again.

Re: Sin City

This movie was one big orgasm from start to end. I was gonna import the DVD (It's nowhere near out here yet) but I decided to wait for the special edition, a movie like this deserves more than a lousy documentary extra.

Re: Sin City

I haven't read the comic, but I loved the movie. I finally watched it on DVD last night.

The first couple of scenes pretty much summarized the cinematography for the movie, I think, so there weren't any real surprises.. but the style was used sparingly enough to stay interesting and not get cheesy, anyway. So that was good.

Mm... I think I'm going to see if it's still here and watch it again now, actually. So this will have to be cut short. :P

Re: Sin City

Loved it. Absolutely loved Sin City. There wasn't anything about the movie that I didn't like. It was an amazing mix of a comic book looking world, that had a "Cassablanca" feel, but still modern. The entire movie was like reading the novel (with the constant voice overs/narration) and watching a hard action movie at once. I found the movie to be strange/unusual- but that only added to its appeal. Loved it from start to end.

Re: Sin City

The movie is basically a visual roller coaster from start to end. To be honest I think it runs just a tad long, but it's still one of the best films of the year, and the preservation of the original graphics novels is incredible. You'd think they did a good job in Lord of the Rings in their porting to another medium, until you've seen this movie.

Re: Sin City

I absolutely loved Sin City. I was going to see it anyway because it looked awesome, but I'm a huge Bruce Willis fan and that sweetened the deal for me.

However after watching the movie, I know full well that Mickey Rourke stole the show as Marv. It was like Mickey Rourke was born to play Marv. I honestly don't think anyone else in the world could have played that part any better.

The movie was fantastic. It's definitely probably the best that I've seen in a long time. I need to find some money so I can buy it on DVD.

Re: Sin City

Yes, I have seen this awsome movie. I must say though, having it in balck and white made the movie more true to it's graphic novel orgins. I also liked how the movie had a story for every character, which you don't see often in the movies and how they had a more unique order of doing so.

Re: Sin City

DO NOT BUY THE DVD. It's a complete waste of money to buy the regualr one, just wait for the special edition to come out.

The movie itself is just awesome and I do hope the sequel is just as good.

Re: Sin City

I agree with what everyone else has already said: AMAZING MOVIE! Well made, well directed, well adapted. Seriously, if you haven't read any of the graphic novels, do so and your appreciation for this movie will raise even more. The faithfulness to the comics is just mind-boggeling, and they truly did just use the comics as the story boards. I have three of the novels ("The Hard Goodbye" [Marv's story], "A Dame to Kill For" [only one scene in the movie], and "The Big Fat Kill" [Dwight's story]) but when I saw the movie I had only read "The Hard Goodbye' and I was freaking out in the theatre as to how it was like watching the comic book in motion.

As Otaking said DO NOT BUY THE DVD! As of now it only contains a making-of featurette. If you know anything about Rodriguez it's that he is in love with special features, and the special edition (which I hear will be out in November) should be loaded with them. They've confirmed that they will be including the ability to watch each of the stories seperately and in their entirety (they filmed all three stories but cut some bits out from each to allow more time, an example being in "The Hard Goodbye" when Marv goes to his house to pick up his gun, Gladys) and there should be much much more. I can hardly wait.

Re: Sin City

I rented the DVD and just done watching it. Man, I love that movie! I so want to read the comics now. I loved how it was in black and white, and the only colors they showed were red, yellow, blue, and green. The stories were amazing, the characters were believable, and I truely love the music! I'm going to wait until the Second Edition comes out before I buy the DVD though. But I can't wait!

Re: Sin City

Ya this was a good movie. Although a little weird to me.

Just incase for everyone who hasnt seen this, I'm gunna talk in spiler tags.

Spoiler (Highlight to read):
The part with Elijah Wood really caught me off guard. When you find out that he eats people and mounts their head on the wall. And I think the part at the end was really disturbing with Bruce Willis and Junior.

I know this is a comic but whats up with the part where(I think his name was Ed) kept getting shot and he still wouldnt die? Even for a cartoon that is still a little stupid.

Well that's what I thought of the movie. Overall it was an awesome movie.

I don't think that's such a spoiler, but I'll put the answer in tags anyway.

Spoiler (Highlight to read):
That's be Marv you're referring to I assume. The thing that the movie can't bring accross is how big Marv actually is. Marv is like a rhino, anything less than a high-power, high-caliber rifle shot to the right place is pretty much going to do minimal damage. In "A Dame to Kill For" Dwight accurately describes him as "seven feet plus of muscle and mayhem that goes by the name of Marv."

Re: Sin City

Ooooo I see. That would pretty much explain it then.

O and if anyone who has read the comics, how did Bruce's character get that scar on his forehead.

Ha, nice. I totally agree. It's one of my favorite movies ever. It really captured the graphic novels well, apparently. Great movie. One of the best.

Oh jeez, I know. His voice overs were great ... I find his voice sort of mesmerizing, its so deep and like ... all scratchy. But I guess thats just because he smokes so much ... or just for effect. Benicio del Toro was great too ... marvelous acting, especially when ... heh ... he got pwned by everyone in Old Town ... mostly MiHo (dunno how to spell her name). I think one of the other greatest actors was Clive Owen ... he did a great job. The way he was handling everything that was going down around him made it seem very realistic ... especially with the narration about both the predicament, and his love for Gale.

I agree.

Spoiler (Highlight to read):
You'll notice that when he gets caught by the police, they shoot him a LOT in the chest and stomach, and after it goes black for a second, he's alive, and annoyed, saying that they should have shot him in the head, that they had the time. The head might have killed him.

But I don't know how Hartigan got the scar on his forehead, I've never read the comics.

Re: Sin City

I just saw the movie last night. I really liked it. I thought it was very well-made, and everyone did an excellent job in their roles. I particularly liked Benicio del Toro and Clive Owen.
