Anybody Who Liked the Prequel Trilogy?

I'm one of the handful of Star Wars fans who likes the prequel trilogy. Now I don't think that they were as good as the original trilogy (obviously), but I liked them nevertheless. The stories are pretty decent, though Revenge of the Sith had the best one out of all of them.

It seems most people hate the PT just because it’s…newer. They don’t like the idea that someone could one up the original. Now, personally, I like the OT slightly more, but the PT is nowhere near as bad as people try and make it out to be. Now the CGI movie…that IS as bad as people say it is…and so it the CGI TV series.

I didn't hate them. They just didn't have the same charm as the old ones.
They are alright, and were exciting to watch when they first came out.
They are definitely a WHOLE lot better than many other movies I've seen.

Yes, fanboyism is often dangerous when it comes to judging, especially with a certain game thats discussed in this sight

Re: Anybody Who Liked the Prequel Trilogy?

I LOVED the prequels when they first came out, but despite the good memories I have with them, they're just not good movies.

Granted, Revenge of the Sith is pretty good, but they ruined the 2 key scenes. First one being Mace/Palpatine fight, Anakin turning to the Darth Vader was a brutal 10 minutes. Just horrible acting, well Hayden was ok but Sam Jackson and Ian McDiarmid did horrid. The 2nd of course being Vader's "NOOOO". Need I say more?

I don't like the prequel trilogies.

I also don't get why people often consider Revenge of the Sith so good. I groaned through pretty much my entire viewing of it. For my money, The Phantom Menace was the most enjoyable.

I think the reason why people consider Revenge the best was because it actually explains everything (though at the same time the suspense is killed since we know happens anyway), and that its darker. Alot of people complained that TPM and Attack to be too kid friendly (so are the originals), so because Revenge was darker, they felt it was better.

You actually liked Phantom Menace?

Well, like you said the broad story of what happens in Revenge (and the entire prequels for that matter) was known years before they were actually made, so that can't be it.

I've never been one to find things better just because they are 'darker.' It was a darker movie, but it was still really bad.

I didn't love any of the three movies, but I think Menace is the one I disliked the least. Qui-Gon Jinn and Darth Maul were pretty much the only good things to come out of the prequels, and they both happened to appear pretty much exclusively in that movie. Plus a couple other things.

Re: Anybody Who Liked the Prequel Trilogy?

They're okay movies. They had good action scenes for the most part, and the sith were pretty cool. Grievous failed to live up to the badassness he had in the original Clone Wars cartoon, which really disappointed me.

I hated Episode 1, but 2 was half decent and 3 was really good. You just have to accept that the prequel trilogy has a different style of writing than the originals.

Re: Anybody Who Liked the Prequel Trilogy?

I think the older ones had a much larger impact on their generation. It was a leap in special effects and at the same time...fun.

The newer trilogy, while it had good special effects, was not awe-inspiring, and the freedom for it to be fun was not all there, due to the fact that they had to tie in the story.

A big stink I had with the prequels, especially Revenge of the Sith, was the acting. There were moments that I can't believe a director like George Lucas would ever pass approval on.

Honestly though, I quite enjoyed the newer trilogy. It felt original in the whole 'adding up to a classic' theme. I thought Episode I was okay, very well put together, but not as exciting as it could have been. Episode II, I loved, even though it lacked a good balance between action and plot, I feel. In fact, the entire droid factory scene wasn't planned at all. Pretty unorganized if you ask me. But I loved it nonetheless. I feel Episode III was the weakest link of the trilogy, sadly. The acting was awful in too many parts for a movie like Star Wars, they threw way too much in, and I feel it destroyed Anakin's theme of turning evil. Through Episode II we were shown many elements of him rejecting his Jedi ways and resorting to selfish ones, because of troubles in his life. Then in Episode III he 'turns evil' only to protect Padme during child birth, not because he was susceptible to 'falling to the Dark Side.' It was a very disappointing close to me, I regret to say.

Re: Anybody Who Liked the Prequel Trilogy?

Personaly I thought the first of the new trillogy wasn't bad. I really liked qui gon jinn and the fit witth darth maul. The episode II I hated I thought that it had to much talking, the only good part was the battle at the end and the best part of the series when Yoda shows us his moves. Episode III was good but thats mostly do to all the action in the movie. I do think that the origionals are better and I do feel sorry for all the independent contracters that working on the death star in episode VI when it was destroyed.

Re: Anybody Who Liked the Prequel Trilogy?

The original trilogy are the better movies, by far. Though to be fair, comparing them to the PT isn't quite fair.

See, to me, the OT was a space opera. It was a marvelous story, with gripping characters, and a plot you wanted more of. Knowing that, it wasn't very focused on the lightsaber battles.

The PT was the eye candy part. The storyline was rather silly and cheesy, with some stupid characters (see: Grievous and Watto), but it had a lot more Jedi/Sith oriented fighting, as well as large scale warfare.

So, yeah. If you just do like I do, and just view the PT as eye candy with a Star Wars twist, it's really not that bad.

I think I'm leaning most toward this opinion, although I still enjoy the prequel trilogy almost just as much even today. I prefer the worlds, art, design, and characters over that of the original trilogy hands down.

Do I like the Prequel Trilogy? Why, yes. I do.
I love it. Episode II is my favorite Star Wars film...then comes Episode V.

Re: Anybody Who Liked the Prequel Trilogy?

I think that the problem with the new trilogy is that so much of the focus was on the world, and the special effects. I mean, the special effects in the old trilogy didn't come first, it was the characters. When every scene in the movie has something computer generated, then you have a problem. At least that is how it was for me.

Re: Anybody Who Liked the Prequel Trilogy?

Oooh, Essay time.

Star Wars the Prequels.
I do not hate the prequels for what they aren't,
but love them for what they are.

No matter where, fan boys anywhere will
rip things to shreds. There is no way ever, to please
everyone.

Imagine with me if the prequels never had been made,
and you were sitting with the scripts for them. I believe
you'd go wild. I think people have even taken up disliking them...
because everyone else does. It's silly.

But what went wrong? The dialog, the acting, the trade
for digital and CGI for practical, some recycling of the old
and ... quite a few things actually. In my personal opinion,
George shouldn't of directed. A New Hope, was the only one
he directed of the original Trilogy, and if you compare A New Hope
to ESB and ROTJ, they are hugely different in terms of theme and story.
ANH was a war film, Every other film, including the prequels is a fantasy.

Episode 1 - Why the heck do I love this film so much? I'll tell you why.
Take a look at Ep 2 and Ep 3. Why do they feel a lot cheaper? Well it's because
Phantom Menace had more practical sets in the whole of the trilogy. I felt more
there than I did with Ep 2 and Ep 3. Secondly, it is a great fantasy film, by itself. Forget that it's star wars. Take a note how a lot of the film is based off Ben Hur - Epic. =3. No, I can not be bothered to re-tell the story. It has a tied ending. A complete resolve.

Then, I love episode 3, for showing the migration into the old.
It had been written in many books that the final battle would
take place on a lava planet. I was amazed to see that followed through
to the movie. Although everything seemed to be hanging on the end's climax,
it delivered.

This brings me to say why Episode 2 was my least favorite, as the end
seemed more of a fan give away. Lets just throw in Yoda fighting.
I got action fatigued from it all.

But I guess I'm missing the point.
The Prequels may not have the same charm
as the originals, but they have a charm in their own...

I do like the prequels...I think the first movie in particular could have done without this particular character though:

I liked the prequel trilogy as a whole, but i think the first and second ones could have been a lot better. Although i actually consider Episode Three to be the best movie in the entire series.
