Tsukuyomi: Stop looking through the nostalgia goggles. The prequels were awesome. The only people that hate them are the older fans. Seriously how did they not live up to their potential? WHat would you have wanted to see them do?

Better acting, better structure, less focus on special effects. If anything, the prequels were running mostly on their name. Otherwise there really wasn't anything grand about them.

This is all true. The main reason that people don't see any faults with the prequel trilogy is because, of course, its Star Wars; everyone likes Star Wars, right? People are basically blinded by the Star Wars name and don't see how bad the movie is playing in front of them. The prequel trilogy is good in theory, but they didn't do it right!

Amen.

Not to get off topic, but I'm still seriously hoping they realize what's going on and nip it in the bud before Indy has this happen to it as well.

Sorry, I forgot I posted in this thread. >_<
  • Mark Hamill was inexperienced, yes, but so was Luke Skywalker. Hamill was the perfect choice as an inexperienced actor to play an inexperienced character. And, like Christensen, he got better as experience for both actor and character accumulated.
  • Indeed, some actors are simply better from the get-go; I believe that nature and genes has a lot to do with many skills and talents, so you won't get an argument from me there. On the other hand, although I don't consider Christensen to be superbly talented, I don't exactly feel that he's woefully incompetent either. Christensen, for me, is an actor that is learning. Let's leave it at that. ^_^;

Well, Christianson must still be learning then. He hasn't been in any good movies and he hasn't performed well in any of them! Acting is not something you really need experience for. You just need to be good at it...

Also, I don't think inexperienced actors and inexperienced characters really go hand in hand. Inexperienced characters need to be acted by good actors if you want it to be convincing. But, like I said before, I don't believe that you really need experience to perform well...

Re: Anybody Who Liked the Prequel Trilogy?

I honestly don't see why so many people complain about Christensen specifically. I thought the whole 'cry-baby' approach to the character was very fitting. Anakin was never meant to be a very 'strong' character, I don't think. I don't know, I guess I'm one of the few.

I agree. The angst fits him since anger is the path towards the dark side

Re: Anybody Who Liked the Prequel Trilogy?

I saw the original trilogy for the first time after I saw AoTC and PM, when I was around 19, so no nostalgia lenses. And I still thought the prequels were quite weak and the original trilogy very awesome (well, except Jedi). I wouldn''t expect the prequels to match the original trilogy; not many modern fantasy films would. But each prequel was soundly overshadowed by a superior action movie of its year: The Matrix in 1999, Spiderman in 2002, and Batman Begins in 2005.

If crying in a corner and feeling sorry for yourself is the path to the dark side, I quit...

^I expected much from the Prequel Trilogy. They should have been better, but they weren't. At least now I can refer to it as a prime example of how special effects and action do not make good movies...
