Pirates of the Caribbean

I recently watched the trilogy for the first time and I must say I wasn't
impressed. All action, absolutely zero character depth. Not only that, but
everything was so consistently over-the-top that it became boring. For
over-the-top excitement to work, there has to be some down-time between
the extreme sequences. Over-the-top content is only impressive in comparison
to some realistic, calm interludes. What ever happened to the art of contrast?
The series is overly heavy on structure instead of character development, i.e.
get these items to do that. The scenes of the pirate lord's gathering felt irrelevant
instead of epic. Do they really have to call a convention to decide that they will
fight for their freedom rather than surrender? The inclusion of Calypso was
entirely redundant and added nothing. It just failed to be epic, and almost
put me to sleep. Halfway through the 2nd film I got bored, and the 3rd film
was boring from start to finish.

I do have to say that the visuals were terrific, but...

After reading your... opinion, I suggest you do the same.

Maybe you should go and review The Lord of the Rings trilogy next so we can listen to you whine about how the final battle scene was way over the top with ♥♥♥♥ like ghosts and giant elephants, seriously was it directed by a five year old? Or how about the lazy ass script writing? The Eagles serve as Deus ex machina not once but twice! And the inclusion of hobbits was entirely redundant and added nothing, it was just an excuse to save money, midgets get paid much less than real actors.

well I'm terribly sorry you disliked the trilogy! shame. and if your immediate urge after viewing is to rip it to shreds in a zelda forum, then more power to you I suppose, but don't expect positive feedback.

According to my opinion PoTC is awesome. Looks like your theory needs some more work.

I liked the series.
I heard they might make another one, which would be awkward.

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean

Actually, I have to say that I thought Pirates 2 and 3 were somewhat lacking compared to the first film (which was awesome). I simply don't think the plot was handled as well as it could have been, and often, it was only Johnny Depp's hilarious Cap'n Jack Sparrow character who was still keeping my interest.

I agree with this. The first Pirates film was damn good and very entertaining. The second was alright but lacking in alot of areas. The third was border line bad actually. I didnt care for it at all. I doubt ill even watch it again.

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean

The first flick is great, it's fun, exciting, and pretty much the perfect popcorn movie.

I don't mind the second or third movie, but I am completely biased in saying that because I totally love the franchise to death by virtue of how much I love the first movie. I've seen it more times than I can count.
