Re: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
Saw it at midnight, and oh man it was good. And funny. This was definitely the most I'd laughed at a HP flick.
Luna Lovegood will forever remain my favorite character in HP ever. But I was kinda bummed that Neville was completely jipped of any lines. I just saw him in with the groups and background shots. Poor, poor Longbottom.

Also about Lupin and Tonks. No mention of them being an item was even brought up in the previous books. In this book (number 6), Harry starts wondering about Tonks' relationship with Sirius due to the change of her Patronus. However i hear they removed the scene with her Patronus in it (or put it somewhere else) and so who knows if there is even that discussion. In the end it is made clear that Tonks and Lupin have something going on. in the 7th book they get married.

Re: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
I saw it today and I thought it was just as hilarious and at the same time extremely morbid and mature(which is weird becasue it was only PG). I never thought I would laugh THIS much during a Harry Potter movie. It goes to show how all the character have excellent chemistry and work together really well. When it got serious, it showed a newer side to the franchise. Not quite as dark as Goblet of Fire, but still quite dark.
Although I have to say that by the end of the movie, it felt a little difficult to swallow, so to speak. Some parts kind of felt like it was just a scene, after a scene, after a scene with multiple storylines that were a bit difficult to balance for a movie a little over 2.5 hours(Voldemort's past, Malfoy's mission, the love relationships, snape's true allegiance, etc etc). Coming from someone who had read the first 6 books twice, I think it's just something that works better with books thn movies and/or just a personal preference, because you can read at your own pace, whereas with a movie, you have to go with its pace. that being said, I loved the movie, and will definately see it again and again(probably even more times in theatres than any other the other HP movies so far). Without a doubt one of the best movies this summer.

Re: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
Saw the film, earlier tonight. Here's my quick review:
![]() Plot Synopsis: ”Adolescent wizard-in-training Harry Potter returns to Hogwarts for another year of schooling and learns more about the dark past of the boy who grew up to become Lord Voldemort in this, the sixth installment of the film series that originated from the writings of author J.K. Rowling. There was a time when Hogwarts was thought of as a safe haven, but thanks to Voldemort's tightening grip on both the Muggle and wizarding worlds, that simply isn't the case anymore. Suspecting that the castle may even harbor an outright threat, Harry finds his investigation into the matter sidelined by Dumbledore's attempts to prepare him for the monumental battle looming ever closer on the horizon.” Having recently watched the first five films again, I have to say that I have slightly mixed feelings about the Harry Potter film series as a whole. The first three, while still solid films, are not nearly as “amazing” as I remember them being (though Prisoner of Azkaban comes pretty damn close). Goblet of Fire, however, is much better than I remember it being, and is considered to be one of my all-time favorite films. Part five, while not as brilliant as its predecessor, is definitely among the series’ best. So, despite being a huge fan of the last few books, I’ve never particularly loved any of the Potter films, with the exception of the fourth…and now the sixth. ![]() Performance-wise, virtually everybody was terrific. The central trio, as always, captures the essence of their respective characters perfectly. Emma Watson has especially improved as Hermione, delivering what I think is the most moving performance of the three. As for Michael Gambon as Dumbledore, I wasn’t a huge fan of him in films three, four, and five. In Half-Blood Prince, though, I felt he really nailed the character, containing that sense of power, wisdom, and a hint of arrogance all at once. Alan Rickman, as expected, was brilliantly chilling as Snape, and Jim Broadbent gives what it easily one of my favorite performances in the series as Horace Slughorn. One of the complaints that I’ve heard a bit was that the movie spent too much time on the romantic relationships, and not enough on the “main plot” centered on Harry and Dumbledore. Personally, I didn’t really find that. Sure, I would’ve liked to have seen one or two more of the “memories” that were shown to Harry in the book, but for the most part, I felt that every key portion of the novel was translated very effectively to the screen. While the visual style is absolutely incredible, and the action sequences (of what few there are) are thrilling, this is very much a character-driven film, which is really what makes it the best in the series for me. The movie also has a nice balance in tone, from portions that are light-hearted and fun, to others that are dark and somber. It’s a tough mixture, but I felt that they pulled it off extraordinarily well. Overall, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is a terrific film that, while delivering impressive bits of action and visual wizardry (no pun intended), finds the characters again. With incredible performances all across the board, a solid balance in tone, and a surprising amount of faithfulness to the source material, David Yates and his crew have put together what is my personal favorite of the six Potter films. As far as I’m concerned, the rest of the series is in good hands. 9/10 |

Re: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
Rare Addict, good review. NOW ITS MY TURN! finally got around to seeing it tonight.
OK. Seeing how this is my favorite out of the entire series i was highly anticipating this movie. Plot: As for excution of the plot i have to say it was very well done. The progression however was a bit odd and those who may not have read this book may find it a trifle hard to follow (like my friend.) But most of it is easy to understand. The opening sequence actually confused me a little since its quite different than the book. The point however is made clearly. (I was kinda looking forward to seeing that small discussion between Muggle prime minister and the minister of magic. oh well...) Some parts felt a bit rushed but others were magnificently played out. I am a little sad they left out The scene involving Marvolo Gaunt and his family. Which explains the ring Dumbledore had. And the discussion about Voldemort's mother. The scenes they left in (memory scenes) were EXCEPTIONALLY WELL DONE! Almost bloody word for word!!! I was really amazed at that and impressed. I was actually afraid they left out the scene involving Hagrid and Aragog. But LO! There it was! awesome. Another scene they seemed to have added was Death Eaters attacking the Burrow. That scene wasnt in the book and what happened in the book was a mere visit by the Minister of Magic whom they pretty much left out entirely. Also there wasnt as much emphasis on the Half-Blood Prince part. Characters: Ok this is where the movie shines big time. Everyone was doing a bang up job of it! Spectacular actually. Emma Watson was more Hermoine than before in my opinion. Harry also matched the vibe he has in the book. (He kinda failed in that in the last movie but i dont blame him. I blame the script.) Rupert Grint as Ron did wonders as well. Parts seemed to revolve more around him than in previous films and i really appreciated that since its about time. His Quidditch parts were brilliant! Luna Lovegood was also portrayed well (that actress nails her!) Slughorn. Man...he was great! He was precisely how i imagined as a character! Love it. My gripe? Needed more Snape and more Malfoy speculation. Alot of the book was speculation by Harry of what exactly Malfoy was up to and that was a bit too revealing a bit too soon to my liking. Also just..Needed more Snape. Not enough Snape. Ginny Weasley was also quite awesome. You see the kind of person she's grown to be. More forward and showing a great deal more emotion to the main cast (Harry in particular ) Dumbledore was also much more in character. Previously in the films, Michael Gambon didnt really feel very Dumbledore-ish considering his predecessor was far more fitting for the role but he made up for that in this one. The part involving the cave was very very well portrayed. Overall: The movie was great. Probably the best of the lot. Considering the first two films were the closest to the books (and im sorry, Azkaban wasnt as close as i would have liked). The Half-Blood Prince made up for the folly that was Order of Phoenix. 9/10

Re: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
What in Zorc's name are you talking about? I have low expectations for this movie, but Half-Blood Prince is not a romance novel. Sure, the students are focusing on love far more then they did in earlier installments, but they're teenagers. Of course they're going to be horny and want to snog others, but it's a minor subplot. The main plot deals with figuring out Voldemort's weaknesses so Harry can kill him. Not very romantic at all.

Re: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
There was defiantly far too much pussyfooting around when Harry and Ginny would get it on, and some truly ham fisted scenes between the two. The chemistry between them simply wasn't right. The attack on the Burrow scene, which was supposed to show Ginny's dedication for Harry, was pretty weak but I felt there should have been more of that bonding and less of the "will they kiss, will they kiss?". It's a shame, because the rest of the character relationships were great.
I didn't feel that the film was brilliant, but I couldn't help but enjoy it; when you've followed a set of characters for a decade, you can't help but fall in love with them, and it was fun just to see them again. To backtrack for a moment, I don't understand how people could find the last film so terrible: it was in my opinion by far the best adaptation, followed by Chamber of Secrets. The other 3 were horrible weak movies. |

Re: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
I have mix feelings on this one. I definitely enjoyed it because I'm a fan of the series, but compared to the book is was pretty disappointing. Most of the scenes taken out were my favorite ones. I just hope that they don't **** up the last two and do it better.

Re: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
I saw it earlier today. I saw the previous movies recently and most of them were very "meh".
It followed the book really well and I think it did well on what they added and cut (although the Burrow attack scene felt out of place and unnecesary). I definitely enjoyed this one more than the other ones. The scenes where Harry drank the Felix Felicis (spelling?) made me laugh. The characters felt much more... connected (but the Harry and Ginny relationship felt a bit off. Although all the other characters seemed to have great chemistry and work great together) Well anyways that's just my opinion on it.

If the movie was anything like this, I would see it in a heartbeat.
Come on, you know Deadpool in a Harry Potter film would be awesome. |

Re: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
I've read all the books except the 6th and 7th ones, and I saw this movie for the second time today. Remember how they said "Who's R.A.B?" at the end with the horcrux? When I first saw it, I had no clue. THEN, today it hit me.
SPOILERS: I think its Sirius Black's brother. At the beginning, Horace said his name was Regulas or something, idk. But I was like....R...A...B!!!! OMG! haha...I felt soo smart. (: Sorry if I seem dumb, I haven't read the last two books.
