Re: Alice in Wonderland 2010

I am not suprised it's Tim Burton. For this reason, I will probably not watch the movie. I can't stand Tim Burton. His movies are always weird in the wrong way.

I love how practically every Tim Burton film stars Johnny Depp.

I think Matt Lucas was a good choice for Tweedledee and Tweedledum as well. He'll be hilarious!

He does indeed. Tim Burton and Johnny Depp both have a type of quirkiness (Scissorhands!), which makes them work well together. I just watched Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street recently, and absolutely loved it.

Re: Alice in Wonderland 2010

Since I have not really enjoyed a Burton film since Big Fish, I am not entirely excited for this, despite being a big fan of the source and other adaptations of the work. I also don't quite know what to think now that it has been revealed that this will act as a sequel of sorts, chronicling Alice's return to Wonderland some years after her original adventure (at least that is what I've read).

I'm sure I'll see it at some point, but I can't say I'm overly optimistic about its prospects.

Re: Alice in Wonderland 2010

I absolutely cannot stand any movie created by this Tim Burton fellow.
I also cannot stand any movie (half of them being Tim Burton films) with Johnny Depp(with the exclusion of 'What's Eating Gilbert Grape' and TPotC movies).
He ruined 'Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory'. And Johnny's attempt at changing the personality of the legendary character that is Willy Wonka(that Gene Wilder perfected) to his own was sorry and very disappointing
The new Willy Wonka, 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' wins my award for most obnoxious waste-of-time movie in history. Just for that, I will not be seeing this Alice in Wonderland. No doubt it will be ruined as well Thanks Tim!
And don't even get me started on other such brilliant films as the amaaaazing 'Edward Scissor Hands' and the emo-trendy 'Nightmare Before Christmas' series
Also, I bet Johnny will play the Mad Hatter the same as he does every other character in a Tim Burton film: Fruity, weirdo-emo-lame-weird and over-the-top silly aka unwatchable acting.... Hey, those three adjectives also describe any of Tim's lame ass films! =D

The funny thing is, Depp's portrayal of Willy Wonka was more faithful to the character in Roald Dahl's book than Gene Wilder's interpretation. I'm kind of glad that Tim decided to stick entirely to the book as the foundation, rather than use the older film as a guide.

While i can agree Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was in fact pretty bad. (faithful to the book or not, it wasnt fun to watch.) And that Nightmare is ATROCIOUSLY overrated and trendy, his movies for the most part are freaking awesome! Vala, come on! Beetlejuice!!!!

How does a second adaptation of a book "ruin" the first? It's all rather confusing when people bring up the "they ruined the original!" argument with almost anything, since the original is almost always static, and does not change no matter what comes after it (Greedo shooting first and walkee-talkee guns notwithstanding). True, it is probably the general consensus that the first adaptation is better, but it's still there being better. It isn't somehow forever tainted just because something has now come after it.

I love both those flicks, but that's neither here nor there. What is here and there is that "Nightmare Before Christmas" is a "Tim Burton film" not a Tim Burton film. It's based on some poem or short story he wrote, he contributed to the overall story, but the actual full adaptation, songwriting, screenplay and direction was all other people. He was off tell Danny DeVito to skawk and waddle more while it was being made.

Dislike it if you dislike it, but don't dislike it because it has someone's name in front of it.

I don't think you've ever seen Big Fish.

I'm not Burton's biggest fan. Like I said, everything I've seen him do since Big Fish has been super-unimpressive, but I mostly wanted to make note of the Nightmare Before Christmas thing and got carried away.

Beetlejuice is okay. So is Mars Attacks. I cannot watch them too often though.

I've never heard of Benny and Joon. Maybe I'll check it out and make sure I have a soul.

I must have not been clear enough: The new one did not taint the old one. I still love the old one. But the new one sucked and you know it. He should not have made it. It did not need to be remade, because the old one is perfection. I hate how movie makers/directors feel the need to be constantly remaking films, as if they think they can do better or need to prove something. Sometimes remakes can be good, but the majority are disgusting and make me only love the originals more.

I never said I didn't like the 'Nightmare' movies BECAUSE Tim Burton's name was in front of it. When I first saw it, to see what all the fuss was about, I didn't even know he was the one who made it. I watched it, and didn't like it at all. I later learned it was one of his. I am sure that he is capable of making a good film, but he has yet to amuse me. Just in the least with a couple of his films.

Also, yes I HAVE seen Big Fish. I don't see what the Bid Deal is with it, sorry. My ex told me, before I watched it, how awesome and touching it is. I watched it with Big Hopes from all the uproar, and now I can't even tell you what the main character's name was. I guess that is just the "lasting" impression it had on me. Although, I will say it is one of his better films. It was cute... I think... But I was expecting so much more, so that's probably why I was disappointed.

Re: Alice in Wonderland 2010

ugh..

even i cannot comprehend how badly i don't want to see this movie.

i more often than not highly dislike tim burton's take on literature and ✗✗✗✗. it's not because it's almost as trendy to hate him as it is to like him, i just don't like his style very much at all. i'm comfortable with the way lewis carroll depicted alice and i'm comfortable with the way my mind went with it (which was separate from disney's), and i know if i see that movie it's just gonna piss me off.
he's always trying to make things so spooky and creepy that sometimes it just gets tiring. i admit i actually did enjoy sweeny todd, but batman and willy wonka, not so much.

What's with all of the hatin?

I'm a Tim Burton fan, and i'm really looking foward to this film, but i do agree Tim needs to start using different actors.
One thing i really love about his films is the fact that Danny Elfman scores them(except for Ed Wood & Sweeney Todd) and his music is just awesome, i'm really looking forward to the score for this film.

Oh. Because being a hardcore fan of one thing is better than being a hardcore fan of another.

As for me, I can wait to see it. I've read Alice in Wonderland, I've seen the Disney flick, I've seen the one with Martin Short as the Mad Hatter, I honestly don't see why we're remaking it again. Honestly, Johnny Depp's Mad Hatter doesn't look too amazing. Looks like they just sat down and threw make up at him til he looked weird enough.
