Re: Favourite Walt Disney Movie.

Hercules, Wall-E, The Fox and the Hound, Mulan, The Emperor's New Groove, and Tarzan

Hercules - i was enthralled with the songs in this movie when i was a little kid, and to this very day it's just a fun movie to watch

Wall-E - a Pixar masterpiece, this movie was absolutely entrancing

The Fox and the Hound - this movie made me bawl like a baby when i first watched it, and i use to watch it OVER and OVER again despite the fact that i knew almost every line in it by heart

Mulan - THE DARK SIDE OF
THE MOOOOOOON

The Emperor's New Groove - a funny, clever, well-thought-out movie that i enjoy to this very day

Tarzan - a lot of fun to watch, songs get stuck in my head

Re: Favourite Walt Disney Movie.

When I was a kid, my enjoyment of movies like Hercules, Mulan or Aladdin was always stunted by those obtrusive and out-of-the-way broadway musical numbers.

The only one that could truly be forgiven for this was the Lion King (and to an extent, the Emperor's New Groove, which was all around awesome).

You are aware that most Disney movies that involve animation are musicals, right? It's weirder when they don't have the musical numbers.

Although sometimes they really don't work. I've never liked The Hunchback of Notre Dame because it really doesn't work as a light-hearted musical.

I approached these flicks as animated narratives first, their status as musicals being the furthest thing from my mind.

And besides, look at Pixar - they have proven time and time again that you can do a warm-hearted, kid friendly animated film without dumbing down their stories with Broadway crutches.

Re: Favourite Walt Disney Movie.

Heh, no prizes for guessing what my all-time favourite is.

Other favourites include:

Aladdin - one of my favourite films as I was growing up
Toy Story 1 & 2 - ditto
Finding Nemo - cute and witty. Ellen DeGeneres was fantastic as Dory.
Wall-e - an absolutely gorgeous film. Probably one of my favourite films of all time.

Of course you can, but it doesn't mean that Disney should. Their animated films have always been musicals, from the very start. It is what they do. I don't know why the expectation would be (or should be) that they should make animated films that depart from their original conceptions.

Though they have, of course. They are going to Pixar route and putting out CGI films that aren't musicals. And for me (though I admit Bolt has some good acclaim going for it, I just haven't seen it), they aren't nearly as good as the musical features I grew up with, not by a long shot.

And I definitely wouldn't say that adding musical numbers dumbs anything down, in most cases.

Awesome! Honestly, that movie is way better than the first! Kiara and Kovu stood out for me as a Disney couple too. Very cute. x3

And am I the only one who's seen Kronk's New Groove or something? D:

Re: Favourite Walt Disney Movie.

i honestly never find myself enjoying any of the sequels to disney movies (kronk's new groove, lion king 2, etc) because I find myself comparing them to the originals and, in my own opinion, they don't stand up to them. it seems to me like they're always in the original's shadow and while i may get a few laughs, i just don't enjoy them as much as i could be.

Re: Favourite Walt Disney Movie.

I disagree. While the majority of Disney sequels are not as good as the first, there are several I enjoy more than their predecessors:

Lion King II
102 Dalmatians
Kronk's New Groove
The Return of Jafar
Toy Story 2 (Not a huge fan of this one, actually, but I like the first even less, so...)
Lady and the Tramp II

That's all I can think of right now.

I forgot to add a movie to my favorite list though: Ratatouille. OMG, I've never been a big fan of the Pixar films, but I LOVED this one! x3

Re: Favourite Walt Disney Movie.

Walter Disney was a brilliant, brilliant man and every 2D animated film by that company will live on in my heart as all of them are amazing. Choosing one would be impossible. Although I must say, Pixar movies are good, I've yet to see an awful one, but they just don't compare.

Re: Favourite Walt Disney Movie.

Personally, not a fan of the vast majority of Disney films. Sure, as a child, I loved alot of them, but they seemed to sour with age to me. Except for two gleaming films... The Emperor's New Groove, and Kronk's New Groove. Just love Kronk and his idiotic moments, lovable goof... especially his home made theme song in the first movie when he's 'disposing' of Kuzco's 'body', then freezes as people walk by him, making a repetitive sound... then resumes as they leave. Just about all of his blunders are just hilarious to watch

Re: Favourite Walt Disney Movie.

Oh, another thing about Ratatouille is that I liked the French atmosphere. Paris is awesome. ^^

Linguini is my favorite character in the movie, btw. He is hilarious. XD
