Right, so this was because Forte says he doesn't like himself. I want him to like himself a bit more.

Re: Favourite movie(s)

i cant remember if i posted here already...but here you go!

Spirited Away (and other miyazaki movies)
2001 (and a clockwork orange, even though i cant stand certain scenes)
V for Vendetta (comic is better though)
the Matrix (only the first one though, and the animatrix)
Nightmare Before x-mas (a childhood favorite!)
Edward Scissorhands (makes me cry every time though)
the third Harry Potter (yay for sirius!)
Borat
Blazing Saddles
Airplane!
the original three Star Wars
the Never Ending Story
the Secret of Roan Inish (gotta love irish legends! Tim Burton or Miyazaki should do a remake of this)
Little Shop of Horrors (sadistic dentist gets chopped up and fed to a plant! this is another childhood favorite)
South Park movie
Team America
North by Northwest
Best in Show
Harold and Maude

theres propbably more...

generally I like fantasy movies, the fairy tale like ones though...movies like Lord of the Rings are really good but just take themselves too seroiusly!

sci-fi is great too, but most of it is just so silly (but i absolutely love bad 50's sci-fi)
my favorite sort of sci-fi usually involves some horrible oppressive force (like the government in 1984, and the machines in the Matrix)

i love dark comedy and satire too

Re: Favourite movie(s)

I just got this small arthouse film from the nineties on DVD about a week ago and I've already watched it about 5 times. It's called Pi (Technically, the name is the actual greek/mathmatical symbol for Pi). I can only describe it as a black and white psychological cyberpunk thriller which in plot terms is kind of like the Da Vinci Code, only AWESOME and not crap-as-can-be (I've not seen the film version of The DaVinci Code but I've read the book; I assure you it's crap-as-can-be).

It's the most visually stunning thing you'll ever see (not just in the quality of cinematography, but the editing is also just plain amazing), it's suprisingly intelligent, it's extraordinarily well written and it's refreshingly dark and tragic. If you like films, watch this.

Oh, and its among my favourite films. I know this thread's supposed to be for a list of favourite films and stuff but I'm halfway through a Film Studies A level so my list is about three hundered films long. Besides, I've posted a few lists on this thread before.

Re: Favourite movie(s)

It's funny because Saving Private Ryan is nothing compared to Downfall. As for Star Wars, it's all a bit tacky and kitsch for my liking (but then I have been known to fall in love with stuff like Hackers, so its not like I'm completely allergic to kitsch or tackyness). Fight Club is amazing, but like A Clockwork Orange, the book is better. The Fountains by Darren Aronofsky, the guy who did Pi, so I'm pretty sure I'm gonna' check that out! I'd never heard of Big Trouble in Little China or Strange Brew until now; the former looks pretty good, but I couldn't find anything on the latter.

As for my ultimate favourite movie of all time ever, it is, as I've said many times on as many threads as possible, THE DESIGNATED MOURNER!!!!!! Another explanation of this film would take too long so just look it up yourself and ignore any critiscisms.

Re: Favourite movie(s)

Moulin Rouge--A beautiful, yet tragic film. Starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor, it's a story about Truth, Beauty, Freedom, and above all things, Love. The music is incredible, and both stars have amazing voices. It's based off La Boheme and La Traviata, two operas, as well as the myth of the Greek poet Orpheus and his descent into the Underworld. If you like musicals, go pick it up; you won't be disappointed.
