Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant.
Well..hmmm... I saw the trailer for this a while back and nearly facepalmed. It looked pretty bad. But, with all the movies out right now, it seemed the most promising. (yeah thats saying something) I wanted to see Where The Wild Things Are but i decided against it due to the fact it's said that movie is really depressing. I was looking for something lighthearted so Paranormal Activity was out. (Shakey cameras and night vision? Ehh, i'll watch Ghost Hunters.)
So i saw Vampire's Assistant instead. How bad was it? Pretty bad but thing is, it was cheesy in a good way. It was lighthearted as i figured it would be, and the effects were bad and campy. There is some sort of underlying sense of forboding (even mentioned by Salma Hayek's character who uses the word "Forboding") but most of the delivery was in a cheesy comedy vain. It seems this movie did this on purpose. John C Reilly plays a vampire from a freak show. His makeup is so cheesy but it envokes that Fright Night-esque sort of camp that just makes you smile. Plus its funny. This movie is probably Your Mileage May Vary but i enjoyed the hell out of it for some reason.

Re: Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant.
I hate the fact as usual, Hollywood seems horrifically unable to accept the fact that a lot of source material is not American.
It really pisses me off to see them try and transform a perfectly decent medium into an Americanised piece of crap so "it's better for an American audience to identify with." The Vampire Assistant/Vampire Prince books are Irish. They're set in Ireland, the protagonist is Irish, the context for most of the things in the book are European. Why should this have been changed? What reason was there for it, utter than just plain idiocy. They also wanted to Americanise Harry Potter the same way originally, but luckily J.K Rowling stuck to her guns and said either they stay true to the source material, or America gets no movie rights. Shame the same thing couldn't apply here, though granted Darran Shan is no where near as popular as Harry Potter was or ever will be. The books were quite good and I read them all when I was thirteen or so. I'm not seeing the movies for the sheer reason that I'm completely against unnecessary Americanisation.

Bad acting + bad special effects + bad story = bad movie.
That's all I can say.
