Re: Favorite Lord of the Rings movie
Return of the King, followed closely by the Fellowship of the Ring.
The Two Towers is by far the weakest film of the trilogy. The continuity errors get to me every time I watch it. |

Re: Favorite Lord of the Rings movie
Same. The Return of the King. It basically mashes up everything in the first two and is easily the most epic. And you just can't beat that ending. I also love the extended edition with Saruman, the Mouth of Sauron, and more of the Witch-king of Angmar.

Can it be possible to choose? They're all so good.

Re: Favorite Lord of the Rings movie
I loved The Return of the King. I wish there were more of them. ;_;
Sombebody.... Bring JRR back to life, have him write another book, then have them turn it into a movie, please. Did you watch the pasny 2 and some what hours long version, or the real man's version, 4 and a half hours of fantasy awesome... also there are 3 of them, totaling more then 10 hours. I watched them all in one sitting. ![]() It may seem like plot holes and continuity errors, but they could just be where they took out 10-20 mins of movie to shorten it.

Re: Favorite Lord of the Rings movie
Movie wise I'd say they are all somewhat equal as they each had fantastic moments and not so great moments.
Book wise I'm definitely a fan of The Fellowship of the Rings

Fellowship. I'm a sucker for the first movie in any series.

Re: Favorite Lord of the Rings movie
It's my favorite set of films ever, so it's difficult to choose, but I'll always go with the Return of the King.
Even if you take out the extended edition's additional scenes (which ultimately add up to make it an even more awesome movie), there's so much in it that I'll never forget. Stuff like the heart-wrenching scenes between Denethor and Faramir, the sequence where the signals are lit all across the realms of men, the shot of Denetor looking over the ramparts to see the army before Gondor (holy **** moment), that shot of the Rohirrim lining up on the horizon, Legalos and Eomer taking down Mumakil by themselves, Aragorn's speech at the Black Gate, and especially the ending scene at Gondor. That part where everyone bows to the Hobbits, hands down the most moving scene in any movie I know. Return, in my opinion, is one of the very, very few stories that perfectly encompasses the raw, exhilariting action and adventure of an epic, all the while maintaining just as much legitimate emotion and drama. There's absolutely no cheese, no camp. It is a near perfect combination of exciting action, memorable characters, and a beautiful story. |

![]() What I meant by continuity errors wasn't so much plot holes, but visual mistakes. Granted, all three films have a lot of them, but some in The Two Towers were truly atrocious. For instance, remember the scene when Pippin was struggling to reach Fangorn Forest, crawling along the ground with his hands bound? At one point, a horse reared over him, nearly stamping on him. Pippin was flat on his back - with his arms splayed out by his sides, despite the fact that they were bound just a second before! Then, he rolled over - and his hands were magically tied together again. Here's a picture of the mistake. Another one was when Sam and Frodo were in the cave, having been captured by Faramir. They were discussing the Ring. Both hobbits were sitting on the stony ground, Sam was on Frodo's right, and they had their backs to some barrels. Then, they both looked up as Faramir walked in - suddenly, Sam was on Frodo's left, the barrels disappeared, and they were sitting on blankets. A few other things had changed too. In short, it was a completely different scene! Take a look. Things like that really bug me, and The Two Towers was riddled with them. D: |

Re: Favorite Lord of the Rings movie
Fellowship, I say would my favorite.
But I will give a nod to Ralph Bakshi's animated Lord of the Rings movie(1978), a bit of cult classic in a huge franchise such as this, but a very important thing it is for it influenced Peter Jackson in his live action movies. ![]() |

Re: Favorite Lord of the Rings movie
Awsome, I love the animated films. I have all three of them and I have to say that I like the animation for the Hobbit and Return of the King more than the Lord of the Rings.

Isn't there already The Hobbit? They're turning it into a movie.

Re: Favorite Lord of the Rings movie
^The Silmarillion is my favorite book.
And Fellowship is my favorite of the movies, even though all three are very good. It is the most beautiful. The first steps of the hero's journey played out. The score in this film is also my favorite. Shore did a spectacular job portraying the emotion of each moment. Like when Frodo and Sam leave the Shire and start off on their journey, walking across fields and crossing rivers. The music absolutely sweeps you off your feet. And you feel that unknown, and uneasiness they are feeling in the story, as if you are there.

Re: Favorite Lord of the Rings movie
I was going to say The Silmarillion, but the post I quoted was saying something like making Tolkien write another book, and technically, isn't The Silmarillion a compilation of some of his writings and new ones added by his son?
