Right, so this was because Forte says he doesn't like himself. I want him to like himself a bit more.

Re: Twilight Saga

Oh goodness, my friends are all in LOVE with these series. I kinda want to read them to see what the fuzz is all about, but I'm afraid I might regret it (as one of my friends did). I'm not too much into love stories, or vampires, though.

Re: Twilight Saga

The problem with all of the books is that the dialogue tends to get tedious. That being said, I read all the books in less than a week! (Yeah, we didn't get any special dinners or clean laundry that week.) I would have to say that I enjoyed the books all about the same --- I mean, I did read them all back to back, so I have a hard time differentiating between them.

After the daughter is born, that storyline was pretty neat.

Re: Twilight Saga

I never read the book, but I saw the movie with my girlfriend since she is a fan. I personally didn't get it at all. There wasn't really much point in involving vampires at all, they could have achieved the same effect by making him black or something. There were only a few scenes that even needed a vampire there to happen, and they sucked. Plus the movie was boring as hell. There was like one fight scene, and hours of monotonous dialouge.

If you really need to see a romance/fantasy movie involving vampires, watch Underworld. In fact, now that I think about it, thats almost exactly what Twilight was; a PG rated Underworld with a significantly less hot female lead.

Re: Twilight Saga

After becoming annoyed with the hype, I took it upon myself to read Twilight and I have to say, I really wasn't impressed. All of the (intelligent) negative criticisms I heard about Twilight series came out to be true.Tedious dialogue (as Jehanne mentioned) that also tended to be unrealistic? Flat minor characters?

and for that matter: Flat major characters? And Edward's character is unrealistic. Yes, okay. I know he's a vampire, he's not real, blah blah blah. I'd have an easier time believing him if he were a romantic of his time period (the time from which he came) but he wasn't really a character at all. His character was completely idealized, his dialogue corny. He said stuff that--well, forget that no boy would say it--I'd say no sapient creature would say. And Bella was a pretty disgusting heroine. In a first-person narrative, its important to make a character, likable, but I hated Bella. She was a passive-aggressive judgmental *****, which is okay because that's the way most teenage girls are, but her narrative had no "bite" to it whatsoever. And the whole damsel-in-distress archetype was kind of... ad nauseum.

It wasn't as truly terrible as I thought it would be, but compared to all the hype... it was kind of bad.

That said, I was constantly comparing it to Buffy. Which is the greatest contemporary vampire fiction known to science!

Re: Twilight Saga

I tried to read the first one. Sat in the local Borders for a while and read a hundred pages. By that time, I wanted to burn it. The story, the characters, the dialogue... Jesus! It makes Harry Potter look spectacular! And then they have a Twilight poster hanging in my school's library.

>.>

I want to tear it down and incinerate it.

Because it's written by Joss Whedon, the man who's made of win.

Re: Twilight Saga

I'm a huge vampire fan but so far i'm hating Twilight. I saw the movie. Terrible. I'm reading the first book right now. It so boring. Nothing has really happened. I hate Bella. I hate Edward. I hate Twilight.

But hey, at least i'm giving it a chance. I intend to read all of the books.

Hey, if you don't like the first one, I really don't recommend reading the other 3.

The others are more of the same. Same goes for The Host.

Re: Twilight Saga

I hear that when Bella has her kid its pretty gruesome. I wanna read that part real bad. I guess the "sex" scene isn't too bad either. But in order to get to that I have to read the other books. What a cruel joke.

We generally refer to those people as fangirls. There job is to look stupid while we smart people plan the best method of wiping out every copy of the Twlight saga.

Re: Twilight Saga

Yeah, I have to agree that if you didn't read the book, or watch the movie, you shouldn't comment that they suck - makes your look ignorant. Besides, I find that most people refuse to look at the books because they're such a big deal in society, and bunch of little fandom girls are changing their last names to Cullen. It's a cloud of judgement call. Sure, those things are turn off, but gee people - I'm sure something out there is far worse.

Anyways. I just don't like it when people bash things cause they're a big part of society.. cause they're mainstream.. it's annoying. Check things out, before you start bashing.

/rant

With that being said: I haven't read the books. I still have to read the last Harry Potter book. xP I'm slow when it comes to reading series. I'm not interested in the books (though a love affair between human and vampire is kind of neat, and that I kind of made a story about the same thing when I was 15, but with lesbians! contact me for story), but that doesn't mean I don't like them. It's just not my thing.. but who knows, maybe I'll try reading them sometime in the future.

Re: Twilight Saga

I think they all are entertaining in a "oh dear, this is just awful" - kind of way, I especially enjoyed reading them with edwards possessive, controlling behaviour in mind, it's really interesting to look at them from the abusive angle, the similarities too the textbook beginning of any abusive relationship really are uncanny, and well, I really cringe at the thought of how warped Meyers mind must be if this is her ultimate love fantasie.
My favourite is by far Breaking dawn, what with all the blood, gore and awfulness.

Re: Twilight Saga

I haven't read the second last book of the series, but I find it so far, pleasant to read.

I don't actually "love" the series, as in crazy about it and nor do I hate it. But I find it alright.

The one thing that annoys me is the ability for the vampires in the book to "sparkle" when they stand in the sun. I prefer the darker vampires of the traditional mythology from Transylvania.

But then again, I loved the Cullen family in Twilight.
